Job description

Description

Looking for a highly motivated senior engineer to join our field service team for the growing business of transformer repair and service in Canada.

You will be the subject matter expert for the field service team in Varennes. Your main tasks will consist in technically support our utility and industrial customers in solutions and project management.

In this position you will be located close to our Varennes factory in the province of Québec and will be reporting to the engineering and field service manager.

Job conditions :

Based in the province of Québec

Will require the ability to travel mostly within the province of Québec and from time-to-time Canada and US.

The role requires 60-70% from home and 30-40% in the field.

Responsibilities :

The Senior Electrical Engineer / Project Manager is accountable for the overall project execution and customer communication. Responsibilities include :

SME for key customers on different aspects, technical advice, research and development, short, mid and long term projects;

Improve field service process and execution;

Support when needed field activities and trainings;

Manage multiple projects closely with sales, engineering and field team;

Work closely with other engineering staff;

Provide mechanical support to factory repair and participate in onsite transformer inspections;

Work closely with purchasing for material parts planning and purchase;

Coordinate and help to develop / implement process and equipment upgrades to suit special transformer design manufacturing;

Key focus is on driving / achieving safe execution of projects;

Drive generation and collection of change orders for out of scope work;

Manage customer interface, from PO handover through engineering design, logistics planning and field service execution;

Establish, control and manage project budgets and forecast expenses;

Create detailed project schedules, resource plans, risk assessments and risk mitigation plans to assure smooth project execution and process compliance;

Prepare proposals and cost estimates for customer projects

Promote operational excellence, accountability, and customer focus;

Participate in monthly project reviews;

Promote teamwork;

Promote high integrity, Hitachi Energy ethics and commitment to safety;

Qualifications :

Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering

Bilingual, French and English

Have high level of experience with utility substation construction and utility work sites

Experience of at least 10 years in transformer service or other relevant substation / transformer experience (i.e. manufacturing, engineering design, factory project management)

Sound knowledge of and hands-on experience in substations construction, servicing, maintaining, commissioning, and repairing of power Transformers and Power System Equipment.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong customer relationship skills

Goal-oriented and self-starter attitude

Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Experience with relevant planning and scheduling tools

Ability to formulate solutions to technical problems, prepare technical quotations and reports

Safety minded and proven safe work record
