Job description

Join a dynamic team as the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager and play a key role in creating a safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplace! Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, you'll be a vital member of the corporate management team, leading the charge in shaping and overseeing the Safety, Health, and Environmental programs across Canada and the U.S. This role is based in Cornwall, Ontario, and offers the chance to make a significant impact in a supportive and collaborative environment.


WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Lead commitment to safety and sustainability by ensuring compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental Legislation at two Canadian business locations (Main location is in Cornwall, Ontario and other location in Quebec)

  • Stay ahead of the curve by monitoring regulatory changes and advising on any impacts to operations.

  • lead/support Industrial Hygiene Monitoring, Hazard Communication, Radiation Safety, Incident Investigations and General IH Procedures and/or Programs

  • Develop safety programs to minimize injury rates

  • Act as a management representative at JHSC.

  • Provide prepare and submit quarterly and annual environmental reports to NPRI, MOE, MISA among others.

  • Manage Environmental controls (MISA, CEPA) and perform audits.

  • Report on safety, environment and waste compliance performance

  • Manage and report the process of weekly water samples and submit them for analysis.

  • Responsible for observing all occupational health and safety rules. This ensures your personal safety and the safety of others and assist in promoting safety at work for all employees.

  • Provide support to one US business location in implementing safety programs

  • Refine, develop and maintain organizational health and safety policies

  • Influence and assist in the implementation of Safety, Health and Environmental initiatives

  • Assist in the communications for management, staff and Joint Health and Safety Committees using internal and external resources, on Health & Safety compliance requirements, including WHMIS, First Aid, Fire Plan, Fall Arrest, and Lockout Tagout.

  • Provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior management on health and safety statistics and performance.

  • Liaise with external agencies including the MOL, WSIB, OSHA and HSE.

  • Coordinate corporate facility audits and set audit standards.

  • Reviews incident trend data to identify key risk areas and then establishes and executes a plan to eliminate the identified risks.

  • Act as a coach and mentor to mentor and coach supervisors and other staff on SHE matters and best management practices. Coordinate all related industrial hygiene monitoring as may be required.

  • Manage all WSIB claims including leading appeal hearings.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • A bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Occupational Health and Safety.

  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professionals) and/or CHSC (Certified Health and Safety Consultant) designations.

  • Expert Knowledge of Canadian health and safety legislation and programs.

  • The ideal candidate would also know about U.S. health and safety legislation.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience within Health & Safety, ideally gained in a manufacturing environment

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation & training skills in the health and safety areas.

  • Analytical and strategic skills to enable the evaluation of best practice approaches to the design and implementation of Health, Safety and environmental programs

  • Proven ability to drive driving improvements in Health, Safety and environmental programs

  • WSIB Claims Management experience is desired
