Your Role as an Activity Specialist Under the direction of the General Manager, the Activities & Events Specialist implements and directs activities and programs that promote fun and social interactions amongst tenants via monthly activities calendars including activities such as Tai Chi, leisure outings, arts and crafts, gardening, organized games, coordination of special events and other related activities.

Respect and promote dignity and individuality by recognizing each client as a whole individual with unique cultural, spiritual & psychosocial needs tenants in accordance with the Vibrant Advantage™ approach and philosophy.

The following job responsibilities are essential for the success of this position: Develops, plans, implements, and monitors an array of wellness, educational, and recreation programs to meet the specific needs of the tenants.

Implement monthly life enrichment calendar for tenants.

Provide programs and events that encourage engagement and socialization to help support high quality of life for our residents.

Compliance with the corporate and legislative requirements as set out by related professional organizations.

Aids in the development and distribution of activity schedules to residents and posts the schedules for ease of reference by tenants.

Sets up and organizes supplies & equipment, demonstrates techniques, provides assistance and support to encourage success, and documents observations and tenant participation.

Participates in quality improvement of activities related to social and recreational programming.

Directs activities in a safety-conscious manner and in accordance with the established program.

Facilitates interaction and adjusts approaches based on the needs & interests of tenants.

Supports the integration of tenants from different lifestyles in the delivery of tenant-centered social and recreational programs.

Stays abreast of industry changes and developments in housing and related series for seniors.

Makes recommendations for program changes in the delivery of service for seniors.

Remains current on topics and issues related to seniors' programming and the impact of social stimulation on health and wellness.

Continuously evaluates and modifies programs to ensure tenants’ needs and expectations are being met and exceeded at all times.

Works effectively with managers, coordinators, tenants, and their families, members of the community, and regional representatives to maintain positive working relationships and uphold the reputation of the Lakeside Retirement Residence as a quality service provider.

Maintains an inventory of activity equipment, tools and supplies and reports malfunctioning equipment to the General Manager.

Maintains recreation areas, storage cupboards and outdoor spaces in an organized and tidy manner.

Aids the General Manager in helping enhance programming through the involvement of community-based organizations (Kiwanis, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, etc.).

Aids in the organization of outings in the local community to locations of interest to the tenants.

Drives tenants in the Residence Bus to outings, doctor appointments, etc.

All other duties as assigned Qualifications/Educational Requirements/Certification Requirements Certificate or Diploma from a recognized Recreation program or equivalent education & experience with seniors.

Class 4 (unrestricted) driver’s license and driver's abstract required.

Current First Aid and WHMIS certificates are required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Experience Requirements: Operates with a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and self-direction aiming for success in this role.

Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work to meet defined timelines.

Physical and mental capacity to carry out the duties of the position.

Mature, professional, and tactful demeanor with compassion and desire to work with the senior population.

Excellent written & verbal communication skills and English language proficiency.
