Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a warm, experienced, and highly capable House Assistant to support a busy family of five. This is a dynamic household with a toddler requiring attentive daily care alongside two active teenagers. The ideal candidate brings professional housekeeping standards, confident childcare experience across a wide age range, and genuine skill in the kitchen — including familiarity with East Asian and Eastern European cuisines. This position is full-time, live-out with regular work hours between 12pm and 8pm Monday - Friday. Some flexibility is required for occasional evenings and weekend support.

Childcare Responsibilities

Toddler Care (Pre-kindergardner) — Primary Focus

• Provide attentive, nurturing supervision and care during working hours

• Maintain a safe, stimulating, and tidy play environment at all times

• Manage bedtime or nap routines when required during shift hours

Teenager Support

• Provide supervision and a supportive presence after school hours

• Assist with after-school snacks and light meal preparation

• Occasional driving to activities if license held (asset, not required)

• Respect appropriate boundaries while maintaining household standards

• Communicate with principals if concerns arise regarding the teenagers

Meal Preparation and Kitchen

Meal preparation is a cornerstone of this role. The House Assistant will be responsible for planning and preparing nutritious, family-appropriate meals and snacks daily.

Daily Meal Duties

• Prepare healthy, balanced meals and snacks for all family members during shift hours

• Plan weekly menus in consultation with family principals

• Prepare toddler meals with attention to texture, nutrition, and portion size

• Provide after-school snacks suitable for teenagers’ appetite and preferences

• Prepare and portion family dinner ready for serving by end of shift

• Maintain a clean, organized kitchen after every meal preparation

Cuisine Competencies

• General proficiency in everyday family cooking (preferred)

• East Asian cuisine — including dishes such as stir-fries, rice dishes, soups, and dumplings (strong asset)

• Eastern European cuisine — including dishes such as borscht, pierogies, stuffed cabbage, and roasted meats (strong asset)

• Ability to accommodate dietary preferences or restrictions as directed by principals

Kitchen & Pantry Management

• Maintain organized pantry, refrigerator, and freezer inventory

• Prepare weekly grocery lists and submit to principals for approval

• Manage grocery procurement as directed (in-store or delivery coordination)

• Ensure proper food storage, labeling, and rotation to minimize waste

Housekeeping Responsibilities

Daily Tasks

• Daily light housekeeping: tidying living areas, making beds, vacuuming high-traffic areas

• Full kitchen cleaning after each meal preparation and at end of shift

• Maintaining tidy and organized children’s areas, playroom, and toddler’s bedroom

• Wiping down surfaces, sanitizing bathrooms, and spot-cleaning throughout the day

Laundry & Linen

• Regular laundry for the full household, including sorting, washing, drying, and folding

• Ironing or steaming as required for adults’ clothing and household linens

• Changing and laundering bed linens on a scheduled rotation

• Toddler clothing and bedding managed with appropriate detergents and care

Household Organization & Administration

• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, household consumables, and groceries

• Ensure household security protocols are followed at all times

• Answer the door, receive packages, and handle basic household errands

• Sort and correctly dispose of recycling, compost, and garbage per local guidelines

• Report maintenance issues or household needs promptly to principals

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 3 years of professional housekeeping or house assistant experience in a private residence

• Demonstrated experience caring for toddlers (age 2–4) in a professional or family setting

• Comfortable and skilled working with children across a broad age range

• Strong cooking skills with proven ability to prepare family meals from scratch

• Excellent laundry skills including handling of delicate fabrics and household linens

Personal Qualities

• Warm, patient, and genuinely child-focused — especially with young children

• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and takes pride in a well-maintained home

• Reliable, punctual, and demonstrates strong professional integrity

• Clear and proactive communicator with household principals

• Exercises discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality at all times

• Adaptable and calm under pressure; able to manage a busy household smoothly

• Understands that a home is a living environment, not merely a workplace

Requirements

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

• Must be comfortable lifting 30 lbs

• Clear background and reference checks required

• Valid driver’s license is a significant asset

• First Aid / CPR certification is an asset (toddler CPR preferred)
