Our client, YMCA, is a charity that exists to help solve many problems, from childcare shortages, social isolation, mental health issues, access to wellness, and more. Today, their network is spread across 100+ program locations in HRM and the province, meeting the most urgent needs of the communities they support in mental health supports, accessible childcare, supporting an increasing immigrant population, safe spaces for youth to grow and lead, helping to navigating a precarious labour market, delivering wellness programming for all, and creating community for isolated older adults.

YMCA give people the tools, encouragement, and safe space to discover their inner strength. When they know someone’s in their corner, with unconditional support, they realize they can do more than they thought possible. It’s your support, expertise, and guidance that helps people ignite their full potential and shape our neighborhoods into vibrant and healthy communities. We are thrilled to be partnering with them looking to bring a Chief Financial Officer to their well-established team.

Responsibilities will include :

  • Ensure transparent and accountable financial reporting and strategies that are in alignment and support the association’s purpose, relevance and goals.
  • Lead the association’s Finance, Audit and Risk Committee in support of the CEO.
  • Manage and oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Board of Directors, and community providing analysis and recommendations as needed.
  • Oversee the annual planning and budgeting process, working closely with our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Executive Leadership team (ELT) to develop departmental and operational assumptions and requirements.
  • Manage the budget approval process in conjunction with the CEO and ELT.
  • Act as apart of the association’s ELT, providing strategic and financial guidance.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and “in service to.”
  • Report on the financial performance and health of the association.
  • Represent the association at internal and external events and meetings.
  • Oversee all tax filings and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure adequate risk management plans are in place, including maintaining appropriate insurance coverage, overseeing strategic investments.
  • Other related duties as required.

The ideal candidate will possess :

  • CPA designation.
  • Post-secondary education in finance, accounting, business administration or related field.
  • Proven experience successfully managing budgets, overseeing financial reporting and compliance, developing and implementing policies and financial strategies, and overseeing financial reporting and compliance.
  • Experience in supporting philanthropic efforts and understanding of donor expectations.
  • Strong service leadership, experience building high performing, “in service to” teams.
  • A strategic leader, able to develop and implement long-term plans that support the association’s purpose and relevance
  • Excellent analytical, creative problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High proficiency in financial management and accounting software.
  • This is a fantastic opportunity for a CPA who is looking to lead a team in an organization committed to making a difference in our community. If this sounds like you, connect with us to learn more or apply now.

YMCA embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive and barrier-free environment, welcoming applications from all qualified persons. They encourage Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, gender-diverse people, people with diverse abilities, members of ethnic minorities and faith groups, foreign-born residents, and veterans to apply. They are committed to eliminating barriers and promoting inclusion and strongly encourage applications even if you don’t meet all requirements.

Please note that all successful candidates will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check (less than 6 months old), if 18 years of age or older and attend Child Safeguarding Training upon hire.
