Job description

Senior Journeyperson Gasfitter — Class A
Pay: $45.00–$58.00 per hour, depending on experience, certification, and employer requirements
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Day shift, with possible overtime, on-call rotation, or project-based work depending on employer needs

About the Role

This opportunity is best suited to a senior-level gasfitter with strong technical ability, solid troubleshooting skills, and experience working safely on commercial, industrial, institutional, or large residential gas systems.

The ideal candidate is confident reading drawings, diagnosing gas equipment issues, completing installations and service work, following code requirements, and working independently or as part of a mechanical service team.

This role may involve gas piping, appliance installation, system upgrades, service calls, preventative maintenance, combustion-related troubleshooting, and coordination with other trades on active job sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, service, repair, and maintain gas systems and gas-fired equipment
  • Work on commercial, industrial, institutional, or large residential gas equipment
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, service documents, and technical manuals
  • Diagnose system issues and complete safe, accurate repairs
  • Install and test gas piping, venting, regulators, controls, and related components
  • Perform leak testing, pressure testing, start-up checks, and system inspections
  • Follow applicable gas codes, safety procedures, site rules, and permit requirements
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, clients, inspectors, and other trades
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and job documentation
  • Support apprentices or junior technicians when required

Qualifications

  • Class A Gasfitter certification, or equivalent senior gas certification for the province
  • Strong experience with commercial, industrial, or higher-capacity gas systems
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s licence and clean driving record may be required
  • Ability to read drawings, technical manuals, and service documentation
  • Strong understanding of job site safety, lockout procedures, and regulated gas work
  • HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, boiler, or mechanical service experience is considered an asset
  • Red Seal, dual-ticket, or additional trade certification is considered an asset

Ideal Candidate

You may be a strong fit if you are an experienced gasfitter who has worked on larger systems, commercial service calls, mechanical rooms, boilers, rooftop units, process equipment, industrial facilities, institutional buildings, or high-demand service environments.

This position is not aimed at entry-level helpers. It is intended for experienced gasfitters, senior technicians, lead hands, and certified tradespeople who can take responsibility for safe, accurate gas work.

Compensation

$45.00–$58.00 per hour

Final compensation may depend on:

  • City and employer location
  • Class A, G1, or equivalent certification level
  • Commercial or industrial experience
  • Dual-ticket status
  • Service truck or travel requirements
  • Overtime, call-out, shift, or remote project structure

How to Apply

Apply with your resume and include details about your gasfitter certification, trade experience, service background, and the types of gas systems or equipment you have worked on.
