Compensation: $21 - $27 (Depending on Experience) alongside further perks

JOB SYNOPSIS:

Under the direction and supervision of the Grooming Supervisor, the Loader / Snowcat Operators primary role is to operate Whitewater equipment in a safe manner to provide pristine ground conditions for guests and staff. As a groomer you will operate Prinoth Snowcats and the appropriate grooming attachments as required to prepare and maintain the resort ski runs to a safe and professional standard. The Loader operator works on snow removal around the resorts parking lots and buildings and will be required to operate a loader in a safe and proficient manner.

The surface of our snow from the parking lots to the beautiful corduroy is an important part of the business and enhances our guest experience. As skill and proficiency improve, an operator can advance to Winch Cat operation, special event operator, and park feature construction.

This position requires a competent person ideally with experience operating equipment. You will have to work independently in variable weather, at night, in a winter work environment while adhering to safe work procedures and organization guidelines.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate a variety of heavy duty equipment in a safe and efficient manner to ensure all surfaces around the resort are safe to the public and staff.
  • Maintain safe ingress and egress for all the resort's facilities including: parking lots, access roads, structures and special events to the satisfaction of those department heads.
  • Operate a Snowcat and appropriate implements to achieve desired contours and surfaces providing quality groomed runs.
  • Report any safety issues to the supervisor.
  • Collaborate with other team members to coordinate grooming, share information about slope conditions, and work together to provide the best possible guest experience.
  • Complete pre and post trip inspections and record this information in the log books or Skaddii software. Report any issues discovered to the Mechanics.
  • Provide assistance during emergencies or rescue operations on the slopes.
  • Recognize and report unusual noises and conditions to the Mechanics.
  • Perform daily light maintenance (topping up fluids, cleaning interior and exterior, greasing, and fueling of machine).
  • Seek training opportunities and communicate them to your supervisor.
  • Adhere to safe work procedures, standard operating procedures, and safety legislation.
  • Communicate power outages, fire, or other emergencies to your supervisor/management.
  • Adhere to proper safety procedures in the shop and fuel area.
  • Champion a sustainable approach in daily operations, planning, and development.
  • Promote Whitewater’s safety culture.
  • Work to achieve department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assist in achieving organizational goals.
  • Embrace, promote and follow Whitewater’s mission statement and values.
  • Maintain current knowledge of legal standards pertaining to waivers, equipment, safety regulations, and OHS practices.
  • Working night shifts, weekends, and holidays is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:

  • Valid driver’s license Class 5 required.
  • A four-wheel drive vehicle with good winter tires is required.
  • Highschool Diploma required.
  • Previous experience operating a snowcat is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment is considered an asset.
  • Mechanical aptitude and heavy equipment operating experience considered an asset.
  • Ability to ski or board is an asset.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to operate equipment in a safe, considerate, manor.
  • Ability to work night shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Physically capable of doing the job.
  • Ability to work in an isolated, outdoor, winter environment with variable weather conditions and terrain.
