Job Overview
Reporting to the Director, Compliance Programs and Reporting, the Manager, Compliance Programs contributes to Wawanesa’s culture of compliance by providing leadership to the compliance team focusing on several key regulatory compliance programs and manages the compliance controls monitoring and testing program developed to address regulatory compliance requirements in accordance with OSFI’s E13 Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) Guideline.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads a team of compliance specialists within the compliance programs team, providing mentorship, development, and coaching.
- Manages the creation and maintenance of the regulatory compliance risk universe.
- Prepares a risk-based regulatory compliance controls testing plan, assigns resources, and ensures execution of testing to meet OSFI's RCM and Wawanesa’s RCM Framework requirements.
- Identifies and provides advice to senior leaders in affected business and enterprise support teams on improving internal controls to mitigate regulatory compliance risk.
- Identifies and champions opportunities for data analytics and technology in testing and monitoring regulatory compliance controls.
- Ensures tracking and reporting on management action plans to address control gaps or deficiencies.
- Develops reporting on testing and monitoring activities, and the results of compliance programs.
- Leads the development and execution of key compliance programs at an enterprise level, providing advice, business readiness support, testing & monitoring, and reporting, for Wawanesa’s Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing (AMLATF) Program and Third Party Risk Management Program.
- Provides oversight over the execution of first line compliance programs implemented to address regulatory compliance objectives.
- Supports the development and participates in the execution of initiatives and activities which align with the priorities of other compliance function leaders, using a risk-based approach, to support Wawanesa’s Regulatory Compliance Management Framework.
- Collaborates with members across the legal and governance teams and other business and enterprise services teams to identify, assess and mitigate regulatory compliance risk.
- Performs other additional duties, projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- University degree in relevant field.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in a compliance, risk, or audit setting.
- Direct people leadership experience on projects or in teams.
- Substantial experience in an insurance setting preferred.
- A thorough understanding of compliance control development, monitoring, assessment, and reporting.
- A proven pragmatic approach to dealing with cross-functional teams and change management initiatives.
- Ability to express complex policy, program or process concepts and requirements clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Strong project planning, development, and execution skills.
- Excellent ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a variety of internal stakeholders.
- Ability to synthesize information from various sources, independently identify and resolve problems quickly, using strong decision-making skills to achieve the appropriate result.
- Must be able to multi-task, take initiative and work well independently with strong process orientation.
- Bilingualism (French and English) would be considered an asset.
- Ability to travel both domestically and to the United States.
