Role Summary
Using a variety of geophysical technologies, Geophysical Technicians are directly involved in field data collection, analysis and reporting.
They work alongside other geophysical technicians on projects that include ground penetrating radar surveys, resistivity & conductivity and other electromagnetic surveys on Near Surface Geophysics projects.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Perform Ground Penetrating Radar Equipment field surveys
- Perform Time & Frequency Domain Electromagnetic field surveys
- Perform MASW, Reflection and Refraction Seismic field surveys
- Perform Magnetometry field surveys
- Operate electromagnetic induction locating equipment with all accessories
- Manage field data collection strategies
- Manage and oversee methods and procedures for analysis, storage and interpretation of data
- Data processing and report writing. Oversee the preparation of final reports for client delivery including summarizing the analyses, approving the report and responding to client questions and queries
- Identify hardware, software and documentation problems and improvements based on field experience and data processing.
Fix field issues wherever possible on-site, and liaise with the equipment applications team to support product development
- Travel to other cities / areas is required; work in a variety of settings and work site conditions
- Keep accurate records (Quality Forms, Site Inspections, Reporting, etc.)
- Work evenings, weekends or out-of-town as required
- Read, interpret and augment maps with notes
- Operate a PC
- Other duties as required
Skills & Qualifications :
- Sc. in Geophysics, Geotechnical Engineering or Geoscience
- Licensed to practice as a Geoscientist (P. Geo) in the province of Ontario an asset
- 3 to 5 years’ experience with geophysical techniques such as ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity and conductivity, and electromagnetics
- Self-organizing and able to multi-task
- Experience dealing directly with customers
- Strong communication and team skills
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Clean driving license
- Able to work on job sites outside for long periods
- First Aid and Confined Space Training an asset
