Job Summary :
Within the Investment Solutions Group (ISG) at HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan), we're dedicated to providing cutting-edge technological solutions to traders, portfolio managers, and cross-functional teams, including Risk Management and Finance.
We're currently seeking experienced Senior Business Analysts to join us in developing projects across the trade, portfolio, and financial risk management lifecycle.
These roles are pivotal in driving the inception, design, analysis, implementation, and support of all Investment Trading applications used by our Investment Management team, overseeing a daily portfolio exceeding $60 billion.
What you will do :
Product Direction and Delivery :
As a Senior Business Analyst focusing on Risk, you'll steer product direction and delivery within the Risk Technology team by thoroughly investigating and analyzing requirements from client and Product Owner, establish and execute project plans while working closely with development.
For the Business Analyst role, you'll collaborate closely with the Product Owner and Solution Architect to develop and realize the product vision for trading applications.
This involves crafting roadmaps, managing scope, defining minimal viable products, prioritizing backlog, and creating stories based on user and technical feedback.
Risk and Valuation Solutions :
In the Senior Business Analyst capacity, you'll dive into hands-on analysis and delivery of complex Risk solutions spanning various asset classes, such as Equity, Fixed Income, Credit, Derivatives, FX, and OTC products serving Risk Managers, Finance, Portfolio Managers and Reporting
Opportunity to learn, support, and enhance existing Risk and Valuation solutions.
Stakeholder Engagement and Requirements Management :
For the Senior Business Analyst, building and nurturing relationships with key business partners (Traders, Portfolio Managers, Risk, Finance, Security Operations, Data Management) is crucial.
This involves capturing requirements, prototyping solutions, conducting demos, testing, and providing support for final deliverables.
In the Business Analyst role, you'll collaborate with business teams across the front office, back office, and risk division to understand their trading needs thoroughly and document their requirements for the team to refine and develop robust solutions.
Innovation and Technology :
The Senior Business Analyst will be tasked with researching and introducing new and innovative Risk and Technology ideas.
As the Business Analyst, you'll evaluate market software to determine if vendor solutions align with trading business needs while enabling the team to build more value-add software.
Collaboration and Support :
Both roles require active collaboration within an agile mindset, fostering considerable amounts of collaboration, learning, and flexibility to achieve high-performing results.
You will be required to provide timely support for business teams when anomalies occur or inquiries arise, necessitating thorough investigation of technical problems.
Additionally, the Senior Business Analyst will co-create designs and processes for implementation by developers, ensuring quality fit for critical operations.
What you will bring :
The Senior Business Analyst role requires 5+ years of experience within Capital Markets (Banks, Asset Management Firms) in risk measurement, reporting, statistical analysis, and quantitative work.
A degree in Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Business, or equivalent is required.
A CFA or FRM designation is a plus for the Senior Business Analyst role.
A professional background in Technology, Financial Risk Management, and / or Quantitative Finance is essential.
An understanding of Investment Product knowledge is required.
Proficiency in at least one of portfolio theory, Investment strategies, and pricing theories is expected.
Experience working with IT analysts and developers to produce solutions is vital.
For the Sr. Business Analyst, hands-on experience with valuation models, risk models, and finance theory is crucial.
Additionally, technical aptitude, including Python, SQL, and data modeling, is necessary for the Sr. Business Analyst.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with users, developers, and stakeholders.
Strong facilitation and interviewing skills are crucial for drawing out deeper business needs and usage patterns.
Visual proficiency is beneficial for whiteboarding complex data models and data flows.
A Quality Assurance mindset and the ability to test software for issues and functionality are essential.
The capacity to make decisions in ambiguous situations is valued.
Self-motivation, focus, and the ability to deliver with minimal direction are essential.

Nice to Haves :
