HSE Field Specialist
Reporting to the HSE Director, the HSE Field Specialist is tasked with the promotion and monitoring and delivery of the Health, Safety and Environmental Management Program.
The HSE Field Specialists will mentor and assist other departments in conducting investigations and ensuring that company systems are constantly evolving and improving to meet company, legislation and client requirements.
Compensation : $70-$75K
Work Shift : Monday to Friday split shift, 40 hours a week, 6 am - 10 am & 5 pm 9 pm
Occasional on-call weekend shifts may be required
Qualifications & Skills Required :
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health Safety Act and the Traffic Safety Act
- Knowledge of applicable HSE regulations, codes, practices and standards
- Strong computer skills (including Microsoft Office applications)
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment
- Self-motivated, able to work with limited direction
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate well with others and create effective customer-focused relationships at all levels
- Well rounded coaching, motivational and adult education skills
- Familiar with NSC Audit process an asset
Job Duties & Responsibilities :
- Support the implementation of Health and Safety Management initiatives and processes to build an organization-wide safety culture
- Assist in the development of company Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems
- Be visible in the field daily to our clients, management and staff
- Maintain documentation of incident files to ensure compliance with regulatory and client audits and in support of business processes as well as in house trending
- Provide guidance, support and direction for field level response to HSE related issues including compliance with safety regulations and investigation into incidents
- Support incident investigations ensuring causal factors are identified and corrective actions are documented and communicated
- Support or lead employee Health & Safety meetings and orientation sessions when needed
- Recommend procedures and equipment for safety and compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Perform or support Risk / Hazard Assessments within the workplace
- Attend and / or facilitate all workplace inspections (including vehicles) and provide feedback, follow up and provide lessons learned to all departments as required
- Ensuring there is a reduction in the occurrence of occupational hazards in the organization
- Ensure that personal protective equipment is used following manufacturer’s instructions
Years of Experience :
- Minimum of 4 years in a similar role is required
- Experience in Transportation is considered an asset
Education Requirements :
- NCSO, HAS, CTSP, CTSC or OHS designation is required
- Transportation experience considered an asset
- COR Audit certification through AMTA (required within 6 months of employment)
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record
