Reporting directly to the Site Manager, The Construction Manager is responsible to manage the overall planning, coordination and control of the nuclear project while focusing on the client’s requirements in order to produce a functionally and financially viable project.
This position is within GTA
What you’ll be working on
- Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate major nuclear projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications, and budget constraints.
- Participate in the development and submission of project budget estimates.
- Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones, monitoring progress against established timelines.
- Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors in the nuclear sector.
- Build an inclusive culture of high safety and production performance, fostering trust and relationships with both the team and clients.
- Align construction crews and supervisors with adequate daily work instructions and coordinate manpower movement within the area of command and across multiple crafts.
- Ensure all internal processes and / or client business processes are communicated and followed by the appropriate level of supervision in the projects.
- Lead presentations to key stakeholders to ensure proper communication within the project execution team.
- Lead innovation and value engineering sessions to drive a solutions-oriented focus to projects and clients.
- Ensure employees are following all predetermined divisional processes and procedures set forth by the construction and planning teams to ensure all deficiencies are remediated in nuclear contexts.
- Work with the Project Leads to review and prepare needs assessments of equipment and materials and requisition required items for construction projects.
- Read and interpret drawings and blueprints to determine construction plans, identifying and rectifying any issues or questions pertaining to the documents.
- Evaluate / solve constructability and planning issues specific to projects.
- Organize the setup site facilities and implement, develop, and ensure the safety program is followed on site.
- Participate in RFQ & RFP’s as required.
- Ensure proper progressing from the area of command is relayed to Project Controls.
- Lead daily planning meetings with Superintendents, Construction Planner, and Discipline Planners to ensure the plan is on target for nuclear projects.
What We Are Looking For
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in construction management, engineering, or another relevant field with a focus on nuclear construction.
- Collaborative leader who can work within interdivisional teams, joint venture partnerships, and advanced contracting models such as IPD, Alliance, and Progressive Design Builds, particularly within the nuclear industry.
- 15+ years with medium to large projects.
- 10+ years’ construction experience in a supervisory capacity in the nuclear sector.
- Excellent budgeting, costing, and scheduling skills
- Strong computer skills with MS Office and Project Management Systems
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing all disciplines, internal employees, and external sub-trades
- Ability to inspire trust in difficult situations by instilling confidence and engaging people on matters that affect them within the industry.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges specific to projects.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in construction.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated through speaking to groups of employees on site, and communicating to a variety of stakeholders including clients, management, and site employees.
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in challenging, fast-paced environments.
