The Opportunity
Our team is seeking an organized and enthusiastic Dispatcher to join our BC Logistics Team. This role is crucial, as many departments rely on its execution, requiring you to plan ahead and be very organized.
You will ensure that all orders and intercompany transfers are completed and delivered in a timely and efficient manner throughout the year.
Additionally, you will be responsible for managing a team professionally, ensuring they are both efficient and effective.

Responsibilities
Driver Managements
- Manage driver workload and hours during busy and slow season as well as arranging alternative work during the slower months
- Provide clear and informal updates to drivers about any changes they need to know while on the road and and use key performance indicators to provide feedback to the driver on their work ethics
- Ability to manage and communicate with a large team in professional manner
- Lead monthly driver meetings with updates and forecast of next few weeks ahead
- Evaluate all drivers on performance : delivery times, availability, truck cleanliness, cart return rate, customer relations, using the TT and app, etc.
- Participate in annual driver performance evaluations / wage reviews
- Set expectation and disciplinary guidelines and enforce
- Collaborate with the Logistics Manager on recruiting and managing driver employment, including full-time and seasonal positions
- Lead the employees and team according to the core values of DeVry family
Dispatch
- Assigning drivers to routes and work with Logistics Coordinator for any 3rd party needs
- Ensure that product gets delivered on schedule out of both BC and AB warehouses
- Anticipate and report any delays to appropriate parties (fundraising, sales)
- o Address and resolve any issues that may arise during transportation of goods
- Work with Logistics Manager / Fleet Controller in the cases of any vehicle incidents or product damages during transport or delivery
- Plan ahead, and coordinate workdays for the drivers during the slow period
- Monitor the locations and status of 5-tons and trailers using our Fleet tracking system
- Motivated to work longer hours during the busy season
Intercompany Coordination and Pick Ups
- Make sure all planting / transfer orders are sent to proper greenhouses from planting warehouse, warehouses
- Arrange for product / supplies to be brought back from the different locations in an efficient and timely manner
- Ensure SAWP workers are provided with daily transport to work as well as organizing transportation for workers to the airport, pick up and drop off
- Work with operations to anticipate and plan for any request that might arise
- Arrange pickups, including cuttings at the airport, indoor products from growers, and orders from departments such as maintenance and IT
- Work closely with the logistics assistant to ensure empty carts are cleaned up from stores in a timely and efficient manner
Fuel Reporting
- Review / fuel purchases from all card locks
- Keep track of the physical fuel cards and update as needed
- Monitor fuel card usage to confirm that the correct fuel is being used (marked vs clear) as well as make logistics manager aware of discrepancies
- Monitor fuel efficiency reports which are compiled of the drivers using the DeVry fuel app and viewed on the DeVry intranet page
- Prepare quarterly reports for inter jurisdictional fuel taxes (IFTA)
Fleet Management
- Coordinate with maintenance that all trucks and trailers are in good and safe condition when they are needed.
- Ensure drivers are reporting any damage or maintenance that is required after each trip.
- Follow up with maintenance if requests are not dealt with in a timely manner.
- Follow through with any incidents involving the driver / carrier of any structural damage on any of the trucks and trailers
Safety / Cleanliness
- Responsible for making sure drivers keep a professional dress and appearance.
- Make sure drivers keep their equipment safe and kept clean.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in dispatching, or as a deliver driver or a related field or equivalent experience
- Exceptional Leadership and communications skills with ability to build and motivate teams
- A positive can-do attitude is critical to the success of this position
- A continuous desire to improve every aspect of the business
- Ability to problem solve quickly and efficiently
- Strong ability to adapt to change
Compensation
The wage ranges from $25.00 to $30.00 and will be determined based on your expertise and experience.
