Traferox creates, manufactures and commercializes products used to transplant solid organs, employing technologies invented by the surgeon team of the University Health Network (UHN), with the goal to increase availability of donor organs, improve surgical outcomes and save patients’ lives.
Responsibilities
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for the design of the company's medical device products. They also build and test prototypes and create the documentation needed to manufacture finished medical devices.
Specific responsibilities include :
- Creating solid models, assemblies, and detailed component drawings using Solidworks
- Determining the most appropriate manufacturing method for mechanical components, considering tolerances, cost, quantities, and lead times
- Researching and selecting appropriate materials
- Identifying and working with capable suppliers to procure mechanical components
- Working with manufacturing personnel to develop assembly procedures for mechanical / electrical assemblies
- Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials
- Working with systems engineers to create product specifications that meet customer requirements and mitigate patient risks
- Assembling and testing prototypes
- Developing assembly and test fixtures and defining processes to assemble and test components
- Investigating issues encountered in external testing and in clinical use
- Documenting, preparing and reviewing patent applications
- Managing engineering change orders
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned, as required by the company.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have these qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a similar degree
- 5+ years of experience in medical devices
- Expert proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD software
- Familiarity with SolidWords PDM
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Proven ability to perform tolerance stack-up analysis
- Experience with medical device design is desired
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to generate high-quality engineering documentation
- Ability to execute several projects at once with limited supervision
- Demonstrated creativity in mechanical design.
