WSP is currently seeking a Building Sciences Technologist to join our Building Sciences Team in our Langley office. This team is part of our Canada-wide Building Sciences practice with over 200 team members working in an integrated practice from coast to coast.

Building Science involves a wide range of knowledge and practices related to the design, performance, construction, and maintenance of buildings.

Given that buildings significantly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, improving their design and operation can positively impact the environment and our daily lives.

Key aspects of Building Sciences include cladding systems, insulation, air and vapor control, windows and doors, roofing, and parkade waterproofing.

WSP Building Sciences offers a comprehensive Centres of Excellence (COE) program, providing best practices, training, and mentoring.

The Building Sciences team in British Columbia collaborates with various specialists on diverse projects across Western Canada and the North. Services provided include :

  • Design and commissioning of new building envelope systems
  • Building condition assessments
  • Reserve fund studies for condominiums
  • Design of remediation and rehabilitation projects
  • Tender and construction period engineering services

This field offers opportunities to support advancements in building practices and have a significant impact on the future.

What you can expect to do here :

  • Prepare depreciation reports.
  • Assist with building envelope condition assessments and investigations.
  • Field reviews for building science projects;
  • Assist the contract administration process on projects;
  • Liaise with contractors, sub-consultants and engineering disciplines;
  • Accept responsibility for project tasks, deliverables and outcomes;
  • Apply sustainable thinking and practices within project delivery;

What you'll bring to WSP :

Educational Background :

Diploma or Certificate in Building Science Engineering, Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Skills and Attributes :

  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills with attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation abilities.
  • Knowledge of building materials and construction processes for repairing building envelopes, cladding systems, roofs, and parking structures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A team player with an entrepreneurial attitude and a desire to work with successful, energetic people.
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities, organized, and adaptable to shifting priorities.

Work Requirements :

  • Ability to travel to project sites within Western Canada and the North, and work extended and various hours when required.
  • Ability to obtain various government security clearances (facilitated by WSP).
  • Ability to work at heights (WSP will provide suitable training).
  • Acceptance and cooperation to work in a respectful workplace environment.

Additional Assets :

  • Experience and training in Workplace Health and Safety protocols.
  • Experience in reading and following Safe Work Practices and Procedures.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing (abstract may be requested).

Compensation

Salary Range (in British Columbia) : $51,800 - $71,200

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
