Nursing Unit Clerk, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

What you’ll do

Set up, maintain and complete patient charts, record information such as weight, temperature, pulse, respiration and lab test results in charts or other records as directed;

attach documents such as laboratory and special examination reports to charts after review by authorized staff.

  • Accept calls from Program staff regarding illness and absence from work and communicates information received to the unit(s) and appropriate personnel;
  • call in relief staff according to pre-determined guidelines and refers problems / difficulties to the supervisor; maintain relief staff contact list information and other related records;

maintain timekeeping records for Program staff and submits to Payroll as required.

  • Perform receptionist duties by receiving patients, visitors and others; answer queries or directs them to appropriate area or staff.
  • Perform clerical duties such as typing, answering the telephone, requisitioning supplies from Stores and maintaining related records such as time sheets and census information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program
  • One (1) year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

You will also have the ability to :

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Deal with others effectively.
  • Have the physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Keyboard 40 style "font-family : arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size : 10pt;">

  • Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan : A First Nations Case Study and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have : Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
