POSITION : Speech-Language Pathologist (1.0 FTE - Temporary)

HOURS OF WORK : Monday to Friday, 8 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 30 p.m.

SALARY : As per APSSP Collective Agreement ($69,602 - $101,769 annually)

TERM : Start TBD - until further notice (coverage for Maternity Leave)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Speech-Language Pathologist works on a multi-disciplinary team under the administrative authorities of the Superintendent of Education - Student Services and the Senior Manager, Psychological and Speech Language Services / Chief Psychologist.

While in a school, the Speech-Language Pathologist is subject to the administrative authority of the Principal and the Superintendent of Education - Family of Schools.

As a registered member of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario, the Speech-Language Pathologist assumes full responsibility for the provision of Speech and Language services.

The primary function of the Speech-Language Pathologist is to assist school personnel in meeting the needs of students through assessment, observation and consultation, and / or intervention.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides a professional opinion based on standardized measures, informal measures, interviews and observations pertaining to a student’s speech and language
  • Gathers information on student’s speech and language development and functioning and consults with other professionals.
  • Writes Speech and Language assessment reports.
  • Interprets, shares results from such reports, and makes recommendations with school personnel and parent(s) / guardian(s).
  • Consults with school personnel regarding programming.
  • Participates in School Team meetings and case conferences as requested.
  • Interprets speech and language information received from outside agencies.
  • Prepares and presents in-service programs and workshops as requested.
  • Assists parent(s) / guardian(s) in accessing appropriate community resources.
  • Provides individual and / or group intervention.
  • Carries out additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Education, Manager of Psychological and Speech-Language Services and the Superintendent of Education - Family of Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Speech-Language Pathologist Degree (Masters) or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Registered and in good standing or eligible for registration with CASLPO.

Experience

Minimum five (5) years’ related experience, preferably in a school board setting.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Very strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal confidentially with sensitive information.
  • Enthusiastic, tactful team member, well organized, positive attitude, mature judgement.
  • Demonstrated commitment and proven track record in customer service excellence and setting up channels for continuous feedback.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple work priorities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work.

Other Qualifications

  • Clean drivers abstract, valid driver’s license, and use of a vehicle on a consistent basis.
  • Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector suitable to the Board.
