French to English translator
Maternity leave replacement (1 year), - part-time 3 days a week including 2 days at the office required
$24 to $34 / hour depending on experience
Our client, a well-established religious institution in Montreal, we are looking for a part-time translator (3 days / week) into English for a client located downtown.
Responsibilities :
- Translate texts from French into English, within given deadlines
- Revise texts written in English
- Develop and update in-house translation tools (lexicons, reference guides)
- Compose texts on a variety of subjects at the request of the Communications Manager
- Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Director of Communications.
Translations required :
- Administrative texts - official correspondence, reports, minutes
- Spiritual reflections
- Documents dealing with environmental or social justice issues
- Internal communications (forms, information) or external communications (website, social media)
- Conference transcripts, various articles
Skills required :
- Fluent in English and French, both written and spoken
- Diploma in translation from a recognized institution
- Research skills
- Knowledge of Office suite software and online reference tools (e.g. Termium, Chicago Manual of Style, etc.)
- Ability to learn and use new work tools (e.g. intranet)
- Ability to work with an editor and to integrate a team of translators
- Respect for the author's original style
- Autonomy and flexibility in managing tasks
- Open-mindedness to the religious milieu and adaptability to an atypical work environment
- Respect for confidentiality
