BC SAF HAVN Emergency Housing Coordinator
BC Services and Assistance for Humanitarian and Vulnerable Newcomers (BC SAF HAVN) is a funded initiative (Ministry of Municipal Affairs) to support eligible newcomers to achieve their best possible settlement outcomes.
The BC SAF HAVN Emergency Housing Coordinator will assist refugee claimants who live in Surrey and North Delta with short term emergency accommodation and with their housing search.
What you’ll be doing
- Assessing eligibility and needs of clients;
- Assisting newcomers to find short-term emergency hotel accommodation;
- Providing information and referrals to temporary and / or permanent housing;
- Supporting newcomers with the housing search process;
- Creating and facilitating webinars on the housing search process and renting in BC;
- Collaborating with local organizations and networks;
- Exploring relationships with community stakeholders to support the housing needs of refugee claimants;
- Participating in Province-led activities related to BC SAF-HAVN, including advisory committees, surveying clients, and sharing best practices;
- Providing ongoing feedback / input on program development, evaluation and design;
- Maintaining accurate records;
- Submitting quarterly reports;
- Maintaining client confidentiality;
Understanding the program service model and performance measures set by the contract; and
Other duties as required
What you’ll need :
Minimum educational requirements : A community college diploma in a related field such as social services and / or a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position.
Lived experience would be an asset;
Excellent verbal / written communication and interpersonal skills and working knowledge of English and another language.
- Fluency in Spanish would be an asset;
- Keen understanding of the experience of newcomer individuals in Canada and their available social supports;
- Knowledge of social housing and shelter systems in BC;
- Motivated to work independently and as part of a team to deliver exemplary service;
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Zoom;
- Willingness to use Safetyline, Relias, ADP Workforce Now;
- Demonstrated flexibility and a positive attitude toward change;
A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) is required.
The YWCA Metro Vancouver’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination from COVID-19 is not required at this time.
However, should circumstances change and the YWCA deem it necessary to reintroduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.

Pay Rate : $30.55 per hour
