Job Purpose
The Senior Project Manager must be actively engaged in all aspects of projects in their portfolio and be responsible for providing commercial and technical direction to their team to ensure jobs are being fully supported through to execution.
Responsibilities
- Displays a commitment to Waiward's incident-free vision, values, and culture.
- Participates in the Shop Leadership Committee and other management teams as required.
- Ensures project level concerns and issues are being communicated upward and dealt with at a corporate level when necessary.
- Acts as a mentor for the Project Management Team and sets best practice standards.
- Leads pre-award contract negotiations and bid reviews.
- Exercises due diligence in review of customer contract and specifications to ensure that it complies with our offer and subsequent agreements.
- Participates in project kick-off meetings to provide leadership to the execution team.
- Ensures that all Waiward departments are aware of project requirements, project risks and project opportunities.
- Ensures all projects in portfolio are set up as per Waiward standards and maintains project management files in accordance with departmental standards.
- Provides leadership to team to ensure due diligence in managing customer changes :
- ensures timely notice to customers in accordance with contract agreement.
- provides leadership in managing contract change costs through Waiward's system and ensures team invoices costs in a timely manner.
- Leads all Contract Change Notices, including cost impact delivery impact, and project impact if applicable.
- Ensures that customer acceptance of contract values, budget values, change values are in place to facilitate timely billing of all costs.
- Responsible for overall expenditures of all project costs for projects in portfolio.
- Responsible for ensuring all project schedules are maintained and updated in conjunction with drafting and production department scheduling.
- Ensures that all data is compiled and approved prior to project invoicing.
- Completes monthly cost controls and project reporting for all projects in portfolio by the communicated deadlines.
- Responsible for total subcontract vendor performance including formation and execution in concert with corporate goals.
- Develops and maintains customer relations for potential work.
- Proactively identifies business opportunities and business model adjustments to better position Waiward in the market and add customer value.
- Participates as directed in the execution of department related human resource duties.
Qualifications
- 10 or more years' experience as a Project Manager or in a related progressive supervisory role.
- Post Secondary education; degree, diploma, or certificate in related industry.
- Proficient with common industry software's including Microsoft Office suite, Primavera etc.
- Strong collaboration skills and an ability to exercise good judgement, aligned with corporate values.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly and in an appropriate style.
- Capable of identifying straightforward problems, generating possible solutions and assessing those solutions against the company's standard procedures and guidelines.
- Excellent bidding, purchasing, negotiating, contracting and budgeting skills and knowledge.
- Excellent organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external relationships.
- Ability to prioritize a large work load.
Working Conditions
This position will be based at the Main Office in Edmonton, AB. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold);
carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.
Physical Requirements
The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as : preparing and analyzing data and figures;
viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
