About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Manager, Business Processes and Controls to join our dynamic Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation team .
The Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation (OTDT) team within Canadian Blood Services collaborates with partners and stakeholders (internal and external) to develop and strengthen the foundational elements that contribute to a high-performing organ and tissue donation and transplantation system.
It also develops and operates a number of registries through which Canadian Blood Services’ supports the sharing of solid organs-for-transplant within and across provincial boundaries.
Canadian Blood Service’s OTDT Program also acts as the Secretariat for the System Operators Advisory Committee, a critical committee in a new governance structure that will oversee pan-Canadian collaboration in key national initiatives.
In this role, you will lead and manage all of the OTDT program’s activities that implement Canadian Blood Services’ Quality Management System manual, ensuring they effectively meet user, business, and regulatory requirements.
These activities include but are not limited to quality event management, document management, validation, change control, corrective and preventive action, quality audits, quality training, and process development and improvement.
You will manage, supervise, and evaluate activities that continuously improve the OTDT program’s implementation of Canadian Blood Services’ quality management system manual.
You will also provide subject matter expertise on the management and control of business processes not governed by Canadian Blood Services’ Quality Management System manual and provide advice on how best to ensure these kinds of processes are developed, implemented, and managed in alignment with the spirit and intent of the manual.
In this capacity, you will evaluate existing business processes, determine, and outline business process improvements, manage, or advise on their implementation and management, and analyze and monitor implemented changes.
You will be responsible for managing, supervising, and evaluating activities that continuously improve any of the OTDT program’s business processes that are not governed by Canadian Blood Services’ Quality Management System manual.
You will also conduct periodic reviews of the OTDT program’s business processes and controls, including all activities implementing Canadian Blood Services’ Quality Management System manual, to ensure that performance against requirements and expectations are monitored, reported, and acted upon.
You will also monitor and surface operational and strategic risks to management.

- Focusing on your strong interpersonal skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, you will lead, guide, coach, and collaborate with all OTDT staff, including the senior leadership team, to identify priorities for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the program’s business processes and controls, allocate time and resources to support those activities, and ensure they are executed effectively and efficiently and meet all requirements.
- Drawing on your exceptional communication and organizational skills, you will engage and collaborate with the senior leadership team, program managers, senior project managers, people managers, process users, and designers to identify other opportunities for continuous improvement and lead their implementation.
- Utilizing your ability to build relationships with key subject matter experts and influencers across various departments, you will lead, guide, coach, and collaborate with all OTDT staff, including the senior leadership team, and ensure they understand the OTDT program’s vision, objectives, goals, and expectations for its business processes and controls.
- Leveraging your demonstrated knowledge and experience, you will provide subject matter expertise and strategic advice relative to the OTDT program’s business processes and controls, including all activities related to the program’s implementation of Canadian Blood Services’ Quality Management manual.
- Harnessing your demonstrated ability to lead and work collaboratively, you will supervise, lead, guide, coach, and mentor the Specialist, Business Processes and Controls, ensuring they have a clear understanding of the program’s strategic objectives, its operational requirements, the annual workplan, and their individual workplan, while supporting their well-being at work and their professional growth.
- Applying your continuous growth mindset and attention to detail, you will manage, supervise, and evaluate the development and continuous improvement of process documents (national and local), training materials, change requests, assessments, risk analyses, and other project documents / reports, as required.
- Concentrating on your demonstrated ability to lead project teams, you will advise senior leaders and managers and provide senior project management leadership for corrective and preventive action investigations, in collaboration with OTDT team and business partners.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Desired education and skills
- Completion of a post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a university degree or community college diploma.
- Minimum of 7 to 8 years of relevant experience.
- Certificate of quality assurance is an asset.
- Training in project management is an asset.
- Experience managing project teams.
- Knowledge of organ and tissue donation and transplantation in Canada will be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of how a quality management system is applied to the development and provision of services, as opposed to products will be considered an asset.
- Experience managing direct reports is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of business process management, quality assurance, quality management systems, training, and development.
- Presentation skills, including an ability to deliver presentations and information sessions.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
