Camp Maintenance Technician

Summary

The Camp Maintenance Technician will report directly to the Site Services Supervisor and will support the day-to-day upkeep and maintenance work related to buildings, equipment, and materials of the Flat Creek camp and the Keno Hill mine surface buildings and facilities.

The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Keno Hill, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun.

It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites.

Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7-3.0 million ounces of silver in 2024 as the mine ramps up production.

The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer.

Here’s what you can expect in this role :

• Complete maintenance work based on the mine site's general procedures and guidelines for safety and environment.
• Carry out preventative maintenance and repair for camp buildings and equipment, such as fire and emergency systems, HVAC, plumbing, and appliances.
• Safely operate various types of surface equipment and light vehicles.
• Complete regular daily rounds and site checks, weekly / monthly checks and filling out reports as required.
• Support all aspects of the camp / site services teams.
• Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
• You will help to promote a strong environmental culture, promoting and teaching environmentally friendly values and work practices.
• You will help to foster a strong safety culture, promoting and exemplifying safe work practices throughout the organization.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of experience in general building maintenance in mining or similar industrial settings.
• Possession of Gasfitters Licence is an asset.
• Demonstrated skills and experience with carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and labour work.
• Skills and experience with equipment operation such as a 930 Wheel loader.
• Ability to work independently with little assistance and supervision, understand and follow instructions.
• Excellent work ethics and safety record.

• Ensuring that plant and equipment operate within their safe working limits.
• Ensuring that correct equipment is used for the job.
• Participating in risk assessment methodology.
• Participating in safety initiatives.
• Receiving training and instruction as required.
• Maintaining good housekeeping standards

Work Environment and Job Schedule

• Employees will be frequently exposed to; outside weather conditions, snow conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hazardous wildlife;
• moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock;

explosives and vibration. The noise level in most work environments is occasionally loud. This position will require you to work a rotating shift of 14 days on and 14 days off and you will be provided camp housing and meals.
