The BC Cancer Research Institute (BC Cancer) invites applications for a full-time FTE) faculty position at the rank of Scientist.

BC Cancer, a part of the Provincial Health Services Authority, is committed to reducing the incidence of cancer, reducing mortality from cancer, and improving the quality of life for those living with cancer.

It provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia by working with community partners to deliver a range of oncology services, including prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation, and palliative care.

The BC Cancer Research Institute (BCCRI) is seeking a Research Scientist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, to develop an independent research program in the general areas of basic and translational immunology, immunotherapy and cancer biology.

Potential areas of interest include basic studies of immune cells, preclinical development of immunotherapy, therapy mechanism of action and determinants of therapeutic resistance, tumor microenvironment biology, host-specific immunity and environmental factors influencing cancer initiation and progression.

The position at the BCCRI will be a Research Scientist position, and the successful candidate is expected to have a competitive profile that will enable a partnered Assistant Professor appointment at an affiliated university such as the University of British Columbia or Simon Fraser University.

The candidate will have a PhD in immunology, biochemistry, cell biology, experimental oncology, or another relevant field with specific and documented expertise and postdoctoral training in immunology research.

In addition to a strong record of research productivity in the field, the applicant is expected to have a clear vision for an independent research program, interest in collaborative research projects, and aptitude and enthusiasm for the supervision and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, and the teaching requirements of the partner university.

The successful candidate will also present a clear approach to foster equity, diversity, and inclusion principles in their research program, laboratory environment, and teaching.

The candidate will also need to show demonstrated ability to achieve excellence in teaching and will be expected to participate in the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate teaching activities at the partner university in their field of expertise.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Successful candidates will have :

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Salary Range : $128,298 - $184,428 per year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate’s relevant education and experience and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan.

Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
