Are YOU our next Clinical Laboratory Assistant? We’re looking for a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to join our Histology team in Brampton, Ontario.

You will be responsible for the preparation of samples and / or reagents for routine processing. Perform simple non-interpretive tests under the technical oversight of a Senior Clinical Laboratory Assistant or Medical Laboratory Technologist as required.

Ensure quality control checks and standards are run as required. Independently perform simple non-interpretive tests escalating to a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist for support and guidance as required.

Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as appropriate and deal with problems that arise. Your contributions will make a difference and will greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone’s life.

How YOU will make a difference :

  • Ensure that all samples are properly labeled and identified before testing
  • Follow established protocol for the handling of unsuitable samples
  • Operate complex instruments following department procedures
  • Perform simple non-interpretive testing procedures
  • Ensure that all abnormal, critical and STATS are processed as outlined in the department guidelines
  • Responsible for the follow-up on missing samples, documentation and results as and when required
  • Ensure all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ensure adequate amount of supplies are on hand and that validated reagents and testing kits to be used are in date order
  • Data enter the results into the company’s database as required
  • Ensure that quality control checks are performed as required in documented work procedures
  • Refer results for Medical Laboratory Technologist to review
  • Responsible for monitoring quality control guidelines and making appropriate corrections
  • Responsible to follow all relevant pre and / or post analytical quality protocols as described in the company quality assurance manual
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance following documented procedures
  • Document all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructions
  • Observe and report all malfunctions in equipment and maintain all required logbooks for routine equipment
  • Responsible for disinfecting the work area and equipment on a daily basis
  • Store and discard specimens according to appropriate department procedure manuals

What YOU bring to the role :

  • Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification required or graduate of an approved laboratory assistant course or Diploma / Degree in Health or Science required
  • Excellent data entry skills required
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environment

Nice to have :

  • Knowledge of AS400 Data Entry system / LIS
  • Experience in Histology
  • MLPAO designation

Working Conditions :

  • Required continuous standing / walking with use of fine motor skills
  • Required to perform some carrying and lifting a maximum of 30 pounds
  • Exposed to biohazardous substances, chemicals and noise variances
  • Shift work required
