Our client, a highly respected not-for-profit organization dedicated to making the world a better place, is looking for a passionate and driven leader to take on the role of Director of Operations and Compliance.

This role is essential in ensuring the business operates safely, compliantly, and efficiently.

What You Should Expect :

Operations Management :

  • Develop and enhance supply chain and logistics strategies in line with company objectives and growth plans.
  • Oversee the entire supply chain, including procurement, transportation, and processing operations.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers, vendors, and logistics partners to ensure timely and cost-effective service delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize supply chain processes, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
  • Monitor and analyze supply chain performance metrics and KPIs, identify improvement areas, and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges within the value chain and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including accounts management, marketing, and finance, to align operations with business goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing operations and compliance team.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.

Compliance Management :

  • Implement and maintain systems to assure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, R2v3, and other applicable regulations.
  • Leverage ISO methodology to build a world-class organization.
  • Monitor laws and regulations affecting policies or practices and interface with government authorities and trade organizations to influence positive changes.
  • Ensure service providers, including transporters, consolidators, and processors, have appropriate certifications and safety programs.
  • Develop and maintain Canadian regulatory approvals and amendments relative to the Company’s programs.
  • Lead site inspections and various environmental audits (e.g., R2 Audit) of corporate locations, collection sites, and recycling partners.

Stakeholder Management :

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with Transport Canada (TC), Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, provincial environmental and transportation ministries, and other regulatory audiences.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for customers and other stakeholders on operational and compliance issues.
  • Manage suppliers to ensure they meet the organization’s needs and contribute to its success, including performance assessment and contract negotiation.
  • Assist Account Managers with any related provincial or federal audits and compliance reporting.

Team Management :

  • Manage Operations team members by setting objectives, monitoring progress, and maintaining regular communication.
  • Support team development through succession planning, job rotation, development assignments, and coaching.
  • Ensure the required training is completed and documented.
  • Promote employee engagement and a performance-driven culture through role modelling of leadership behaviours, career development, recognition, and transparent communications.

What You Should Bring :

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years experience managing operations, logistics, and compliance in North America and particularly in Canada.
  • Experience in vendor management, project management, and driving operational efficiencies.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, with experience in R2v3 desired.
  • Ability to analyze and understand data to drive efficiency and deliver results.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality results within tight timeframes and manage multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Highly analytical, structured, organized, proactive, and motivated.
  • A positive, can-do attitude with initiative, superb planning skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of the transportation of dangerous goods is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada and occasionally to the US / internationally.
  • Bilingual (French) is a strong asset.
