The Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health and Addiction, is a leading-edge facility that treats people with the most complex mental health and addictions challenges in Located on the historic Riverview Lands in Coquitlam, the virtually-enabled,105-bed facility welcomed its first patients in the fall of 2021.

The Red Fish Healing Centre is purpose-built for mental illness and addiction treatment, with therapeutic design elements that go hand-in-hand with a new, evidence-based model of care that represents decades of experience, expertise and research.

Red Fish is replacing The Burnaby Centre for Mental Health & Addiction. Both are operated by BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services, which is part of the Provincial Health Services Authority. Learn more about .

What you’ll do

Prepare, portion, and substitute food items according to special and reducing diets. Prepare sandwich fillings, salads and other related food items by methods such as combining, mixing and / or blending ingredients;

measure, mix, grate and / or blend food ingredients; and assemble items such as sandwiches and salads.

  • Prepare fruits and vegetables by washing and cleaning; peeling, slicing, dicing, grating, and portioning.
  • Count, weigh and package food items such as bagged lunches. Prepare beverages and food items such as tea, coffee and toast.
  • Set up diet food trays and ensure diet trays go to the correct wards by methods such as placing diet food on plates, attaching patient labels, loading meals on the correct food wagons, and delivering food as needed.
  • Check and record food and fridge temperatures by inserting thermometer in edibles and reading fridge thermometers. Advise supervisor of discrepancies arising from the actual versus required food and beverage temperatures.
  • Place leftover prepared food items in cold storage according to established protocol by performing duties such as wrapping, labeling and dating items.

Retrieve and utilize leftover prepared food items, opened packages and / or cans before preparing further amounts. Discards refrigerated leftovers according to protocols.

Prepare for and clean up from internal catering functions by methods such as setting up tea and coffee and any accompanying snacks such as cookies. Deliver the catering.

What you bring

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 plus one (1) year’s recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Food Safe Certificate.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Deal with others effectively.
  • Carry out the duties of the position.

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have : Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
