Position Summary :
Reporting to the Administrator of Mon Sheong Home for the Aged, the incumbent is responsible for leading, organizing, and managing the nursing and personal care services within the Home, while ensuring that required legislations are being met.
The DORC will oversee all clinical and administrative operations of the nursing and personal care services. He / she must improve our residents’ quality of care while maintaining a balanced budget.
Main Duties :
- Accountable for the highest standard of resident care and quality of life being provided for the residents through the development and maintenance of appropriate care plans, effective supervision of the required equipment and supplies and appropriate staffing pattern, nursing services, policies and procedures.
- Promote and provide resident-centered care consistent with the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
- Ensure professional practice standards are effectively deployed, communicated, and monitored, in accordance with the standards and guidelines of all applicable legislations and organizational standards.
- Leads the implementation and monitoring of required clinical programs, i.e. Falls Prevention, Skin and Wound Care, Continence Care, Pain Management, Behavior
- Responsible for all HR business within the nursing and personal care department including recruitment, orientation, performance management, progressive discipline, etc.
- Responsible for the training, coaching, and development of improvement plans of nursing staff as needed.
- Participate in the CARF Accreditation process.
- Establish positive relationships between residents, family members, staff, volunteers, and the community.
- Monitor and review the staffing plan and financial performance regularly to maintain a balanced budget.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications :
- Registered Nurse with a current certificate of competence from College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current membership with Gerontological Nursing Association (GNA) and Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) is desirable.
- Possession of valid CPR (Health Care Provider Level C) and First Aid certificates.
- Post-RN education in nursing administration and management; preference is BScN and / or business degree in health management particularly long term care and further education in gerontology, geriatrics, or rehabilitation.
- At least 1 year of experience working as a registered nurse in the long-term care sector.
- At least 3 years of experience working as a registered nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting.
- Team player with a customer service focus who exhibits leadership, initiative, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrates caring and respectful behavior with strong clinical, assessment, conflict management, communication, and organization skills.
- Proficiency in oral and written English.
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to speak Cantonese and or Mandarin is an asset.
- Relevant computer literacy.
