BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns, and families.

It provides a broad range of specialized women’s health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds.

BCW is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with approximately 7,000 births per year and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in the Lower Mainland and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system.

As an academic health centre, BCW’s mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and supporting education and professional development of health care professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.

Our most significant research partnership is with the University of British Columbia (UBC) , Canada’s third largest university and consistently ranked among the 40 best universities in the world.

Medical Director, Sexual Assault Service

Applications are being accepted for the position of Medical Director, Sexual Assault Service at BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre.

Reporting to the Senior Medical Director, you will provide medical leadership and direction to the Sexual Assault Service.

This position includes approximately FTE of clinical leadership and is accountable for quality of medical care, clinical standards, clinical outcomes and utilization management.

Additional responsibilities include cultivating alliances with other hospitals and community agencies for the coordination and provision of provincial services through partnerships and networking.

You have exceptional leadership ability, with proven communications and interpersonal skills. You are capable of leading staff, problem solving, achieving results, and developing coalitions.

You have proven experience in building positive partnerships with strategic partners.

You are committed to your clinical practice and strive to provide the highest level of care possible to women. A strong communicator and facilitator, you have an enthusiasm for teaching and research.

You lead by example by providing support and developing strong working relationships through interprofessional collaboration.

In this role, you will apply your knowledge and experience to monitor all operations and lead continuous quality improvement for your department while remaining a practicing physician.

You will participate in teaching locally and provincially. You will participate in collaborative development of clinical practice standards and serve as a resource for sexual assault examiners.

You will provide strong leadership for the staff within the program, including maintenance of medical and ethical standards of practice.

You are recognized and respected as a team player with superior communication skills who is knowledgeable in current evidence related to women’s health and sexual assault services.

You will work with the Medical Director to establish clinical, teaching and research plans for the programs within your portfolio, plan new initiatives and provide guidance in the identification of emerging issues and opportunities.

You are someone who wants to make a difference and who has the ability to influence the development of long term directions, priorities and strategic options.

Candidates will hold a Medical Degree and will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

Advanced training and / or experience in sexual assault services, women’s Health and healthcare for vulnerable populations is an asset.

The Medical Director will remain an active member of the on-call roster for the Sexual Assault Service. The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia.

This position is suited to those with demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
