The UAH and Stollery Children’s Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care.
Orthopedic Technician works within the Emergency department work in a state-of-the-art facility utilizing an electronic tracking system, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for emergency patients.
The incumbent applies, adjusts, and removes casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopedic patients.
Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary health care team environment. In this role, you will be required to work in all areas of Emergency or in an LPN assignment at the discretion of the Unit Manager / Charge Nurse.

Description :
As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents).
You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care.
You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications :
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program.Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program.Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications : Preferred Qualifications :
Minimum 1 year emergency nursing experience.Demonstrated excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills required.
Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner.Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Must be able to identify own learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur.
