Health & Safety Coordinator
What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve :
- A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do :
Provide hands-on support in preparing, deploying, and applying health and safety procedures and tools across the project, ensuring compliance with local regulations, company standards, and site requirements.
Concretely, your tasks will be :
Prepare and update health and safety documentation (inductions, procedures, forms, checklists, etc.) and ensure timely deployment to teams.Support site activities by applying safety standards and assisting subcontractors with compliance.Organize and monitor site safety visits, including follow-up actions.Coordinate PPE preparation and distribution for personnel and subcontractors.Manage QHSE onboarding and induction sessions for new staff and subcontractors.Communicate proactively with other departments to ensure efficient implementation of safety processes.Assist in incident reporting and follow-up, ensuring corrective actions are documented and tracked.Contribute to emergency preparedness activities and ensure readiness of response plans.Your skills :
Bachelors Degree in Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene, or EngineeringMinimum 5 years of experience in Health & Safety roles on large infrastructure projects;Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);Strong communication skills;Exhibit strong time management skills;High attention to detail and proactive approach to problem-solving;Demonstrate practical knowledge of current health and safety legislation.Proven experience in tunneling or underground works, preferably with TBM operations;Familiarity with safety management systems and incident reporting tools;Experience working on projects with high-risk environments (nuclear, offshore, or similar);What do we have to provide :

The work also includes 4 kilometres of cut-and-cover tunnels, 20 engineering structures, 16 stations, and a light maintenance facility.The Hampton Roads Bridge and Tunnel Extension is the largest highway construction project in Virginia history.
