Join to apply for the Mainframe Computer Operator role at Pomeroy . This is a full-time entry level position located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Core Function
Distributed Systems Batch and Console Operator. Perform Computer Operation duties per documented processes and procedures. This includes a working knowledge of the customer system environment with the ability to interact, troubleshoot issues and work independently in a 7 / 24 / 365 environment. Shift work and on‑site presence required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitoring Network devices (Routers, Switches, Hubs, Gateways, Firewalls) for resource availability, reliability and performance using shared Tivoli On Demand Event Management services.
- Respond to alerts automatically generated by monitoring tools (Viewpoint, Netview, Tivoli, Omnibus, etc.).
- Use ArcSignt and Nagios to monitor multiple security services including intrusion detection / prevention, managed firewalls, web content filtering, email anti‑spam, and encryption.
- Perform general health checks each day to ensure systems are working and no alerts or system errors are present.
- Execute Level 1 Problem Determination Procedure (pinging servers, network devices / subordinates).
- Perform Level 2 Problem Determination on alerts (e.g., filesystem / CPU checks).
- Escalate incidents to applicable support teams and document all incidents with detailed steps taken.
- Escalate to 3rd‑party vendors when necessary and engage MI as required.
- Monitor TSM backups via Trinity and escalated missed or failed backups; check restores on NDMP.
- Monitor OSS link monitor and restart any failed links; monitor daily backups and respond to any issues (tape mounts, bad tapes, re‑run backup on failure).
- Monitor GNM Request DB and support Help desk requests.
- Execute run sheets / batch items that need to be checked or executed; reset / restart links, communications lines, devices, monitors, printers, GUIs.
- Terminate GNM transactions; complete OMS application upgrades / releases as required; recycle applications as needed.
- Perform ID administration and server reboots as requested.
- Conduct readiness enablement testing (testing new servers for alerts).

Physical and Mental Demands
Employees are regularly required to sit, talk, hear, use hands to operate standard office equipment, walk, stand and move about tasks frequently. Ability to ascend / descend stairs and maintain close vision is required.
Employees must use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data; analyze and solve problems; use math; learn and apply new skills; perform detailed work on multiple concurrent tasks; and interact with Pomeroy employees, clients and vendors in a fast‑paced, high quality environment.
