As the Architectural Manager, you are responsible for oversight of the team to ensure completion of the following across the team :
Design and Drafting
- Carry out architectural drafting in compliance with specified work orders, the Ontario Building Code, and municipal zoning requirements
- Create, maintain and organize the master set of pricing, brochure plans and working drawings to minimize repeated coordination items, repeated queries and redrafting
- Respond to technical inquiries from site, including measurement, takeoff, circulation and documentation for coordination
- Ensure final designs are compliant with building regulations and perform in-house BCIN review on plans as required.
- Examine and check engineering drawings for compliance with cited specifications
- Coordinate with professional engineers as required
- Review architectural technologist’s work for quality and compliance within the residential construction team. Identify and communicate potential design problems with the rest of the team
- Address concerns on building compliance with municipalities. Assist with the submission of residential building permits
- Provide alternate layout options / requests to our décor team
- Fill in forms, maintain updated charts and paper / digital assignments
- Assist with value engineering of building designs so that homes are built as cost effectively as possible
- Remain available for site inquiries to ensure point of contact is maintained
- Schedule appointments and arrange teleconferences for site (including clients, internal, etc.)
- Be current on all municipal zoning requirements and by-laws
- Perform a lot distribution and alphabetical grading system between builders
- Perform lot grading reviews and audits
- Add input into subdivision design consultation
Construction Support
- Complete permit applications and cheque requisitions for construction teams
- Complete upgrade order forms in coordination with décor centre and construction teams
- Any additional administrative support to the residential team (i.e. 95% complete, gas invoicing, outstanding quotes for non-standard items, etc.)
- Survey follow up with surveyors for final occupancy completion
Management
- Managing a team of architectural technologists to review and provide feedback to ensure high quality of work
- Provide guidance and coaching to lead, inspire and motivate the drafting team.
- Recruit, select and develop a high-performance drafting team.
- Bring forward recommendations and implement process improvements and system enhancements.
- Work in close partnership with the residential and commercial construction teams to improve accuracy of designs and
Skills
- CADD proficiency
- Knowledge of a variety of current 3D modelling, Revit and SoftPlan programs
- Able to develop technical drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of building mechanical and structural systems, associated trade practices and current materials
- Knowledge of municipal by-laws for Kingston and area and Prince Edward County municipal zoning requirements, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Building Code, and the ability to interpret these laws

Education and Experience
- Diploma in design, drafting, architecture, or a related field, or an equivalent through combined education and experience
- Minimum five years’ experience in a senior drafting role
- Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) required - Small Buildings, House, Large Buildings, Legal
