What Is The Opportunity
The Director, EHS Programs and Performance for Utilities will play a key role in driving EHS excellence across this exciting and growing sector in Canada. Reporting to the Senior Director, EHS, the role is responsible for supporting EHS programs across the sector and working closely with operational leadership in integrating EHS into the business.
What You’ll Do Here
Lead and align a team of Operational EHS direct reports to EHS’ strategic intent by focusing the teams’ activities and holding each individual accountable for results.Work with Sector EHS and Operations Leadership to ensure adequate EHS resources are in place.Actively participate in operational Senior Management team meetings and engage senior leaders on EHS related issues and opportunities with a focus on action.Monitor and report on EHS performance to operational leadership, inform corrective strategies.Work closely with relevant senior operational leadership to coach, guide and mentor on EHS requirements and leadership behaviors expected by Aecon.Drive consistent implementation of Aecon EHS strategy, vision, programs, policies and initiatives across operational sector / project(s).Maintain a pulse on EHS related concerns or developments and provide pragmatic and timely solutions to address issues that impact the attainment of business objectives.Build strong relationships with EHS counterparts to ensure ongoing collaboration, communication and support.Foster and maintain strong relationships with Client EHS Leadership.Manage the day-to-day activities of Aecon EHS operations within assigned sector.Ensure compliance to jurisdictional EHS regulations and other pertinent legislation.Inspect and audit project facilities and recommend corrective and / or preventative measures.Represent the organization in community or industry safety associations and programs.Collaborate with EHS Claims team on workers’ compensation and claims management processes.Supervise or conduct accident investigations, analyze trends and ensure corrective actions are addressed.Ensure resourcing for EHS proposals and assist in marketing strategies and presentations.Assist in Labour Relations matters as required.Assist sector with marketing strategies, pre-qualifications, bids and proposals.What You Bring To The Team
University degree, Community College or equivalent experience in the Environment, Health and Safety field.At least 10 years’ experience in a senior EHS role in the construction or related industry (ideally high hazard).A professional designation such as “CRSP” is considered an asset.Ability to monitor and report costs under the direction of supervisor / manager.In-depth knowledge and ability to strategically apply risk management strategies across a business group or region.Familiar with the players in all related industries. Understands competitive environment and industry trends in the medium to long term.Ability to deliver formal presentations to management, Clients and industry players.Data fluency (dashboards, trend analysis) and facilitation skills across crews, supervision, and management.Ability to oversee and lead major incident investigations. Ability to research and prepare high level reports on HSE and improvement strategies at the group level.Ability to devise and monitor group level strategic business plans and resource infrastructure.Ability to influence the strategic direction of the business at a business unit or group level. Ability to inspire others to commit to the AECON strategy and vision.Detailed understanding of workplace motivation and morale principles. Ability to monitor motivational levels and strategically plan and / or support companywide morale improvement / motivational initiatives.Ability to contribute to and communicate a companywide long‑term vision and a strategy to achieve short, medium and long‑term goals.Knowledge of change management principles. Ability to drive, lead and support change at the company level.Ability to produce high level creative ideas, products and solutions.Ability to develop and maintain a network of industry‑wide contacts.Strong knowledge of team functioning and morale principles.
