Transit Driver - On-It Regional Transit

Location : Calgary, AB

SOUTHLAND is currently hiring part-time Transit Operators for seasonal work between May 17 - October 14, 2024; multiple positions available.

Shifts fall Thursday through Sunday, including statutory holidays. Shifts are between 6 and 11 hours depending on the route.

We will be on location at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino on April 23rd from 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm. Come down and see us - we will be conducting interviews and performing check rides!

Preference will be given to employees who already have the correct licensing, but training can be provided for qualified applicants.

Applicants must commit to availability throughout the period of service.

Transit Operators are responsible for safely transporting passengers on a daily basis and must be committed to providing superior service while demonstrating strong communication skills, patience, maturity, and initiative.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

• Transport passengers safely and according to route and time schedules
• Manage the transit operator tracking software via the provided tablet, while the bus is not being operated
• Maintain radio contact and use proper radio protocol
• Operate the transit vehicle in a safe manner in all-weather conditions and be prepared for all road conditions
• Provide information and assist passengers in a courteous manner
• Manage passenger behaviour by quickly and effectively solving problems
• Report vehicle maintenance issues, passenger emergencies, and schedule concerns
• Conduct pre-and-post trip checks of unit each time it is used
• Drop off or pick up the bus when requested by Operations or Maintenance
• Complete various forms of paperwork, as required
• Wear the approved uniform in the prescribed manner

Requirements :

• Class 2 with Air Brake Endorsement (Q)
• First Aid / CPR preferred - will train for the right candidate
• CUTA Transit Ambassador Training considered an asset
• Knowledge of various types of equipment (transit and coach)
• Map reading ability
• Organized, punctual and reliable
• Calm, upbeat and helpful manner
• Excellent driving skills and habits
