As a Senior Manager, Corporate Finance with Vancouver Coastal Health you will :

Be responsible for all corporate financing functions and business partnership development for the VCHA.

Be responsible for ensuring all aspects of corporate fund management and financial assurance such as investments, financing, cash flow management and balance sheet management.

Review business cases, builds and maintain business partnerships for the organization and manage corporate business initiatives, assist in the development of regional capital plans and monitor their implementation, and assist with the acquisition of equipment and information systems.

Functional Reporting Relationship

Report directly to the Executive Director, Financial Planning & Business Support. Primary working relationships are with the VCHA Senior Executive Team, VCHA committees, peer directors of the Corporate and Financial Services team, and directors and managers of VCHA corporate services, operating entities and hospital groups.

Scope

  • Support the corporate leadership team in linking the VCHA’s strategic plans into tangible goals and objectives.
  • Assist in developing the corporate objectives that set the parameters for annual planning and planning cycles, ensure processes and reporting structures are in place for the organization's investment and financing activities, as well as processes for the planning, implementing and reporting of major initiatives.

Complexity

  • Operate in a complex and dynamic multi-entity healthcare environment and is challenged with ensuring the financial linkage of VCHA operating entities to the corporate functions and overall strategic plan.
  • Liaise with Funding Agencies, Business Partners and external financiers in the development of effective and accurate multi-year forecasts / estimates and financing plans.
  • Be challenged with influencing the decision making process of a large, complex, multi-entity organization, and to provide leadership and technical support to the organization in finance related matters.

Communications can be highly sensitive in nature and require considerable judgement and discretion as well as the ability to discern how messages are to be delivered to various audiences.

  • Have innovative thinking and creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Be required to consult with and coordinate action plans with others in planning and implementing initiatives that may have corporate-wide implications.
  • Have highly developed time management skills in directing a variety of cyclical financial management processes, including financial risk assurance, in addition to an in-depth understanding of the entity specific and corporate cash flow needs, working capital position, debt / equity structure and timely investments.

Communication and Contacts

Internal

Interact primarily with members of VCHA Senior Executive team, board committees, peer VCHA Corporate and Financial Services Directors, as well as directors and managers of VCHA corporate services, operating entities and hospital groups.

Communications involve consulting, coordinating, liaising, directing and providing information and guidance to others in specialized knowledge and expertise.

External

Deal with a number of external contacts including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, banks and other financial institutions, external financiers, and vendors.

Contacts involve coordinating, liaising, negotiating, reporting on investments and financing requirements, and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Completion of a recognized professional accounting designation (, , or , or a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA).
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of recent related experience in a progressively senior financial planning capacity in a large, complex healthcare environment, or and equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to strategically and creatively solve complex problems within a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Results oriented within a high-pressure working environment with numerous critical timelines.
  • Proven negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated financial planning and reporting, cost accounting and financing expertise.
  • Proven ability to design, implement and manage complex planning, reporting and business processes.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership, management and supervisory experience with an excellent sense of corporate and departmental priority and a strong business acumen are critical.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
