Join a dynamic team at Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that is on the frontline of delivering an exceptional guest experience.
POSITION : RETAIL AND ADMISSIONS CLERK (student)
HOURS OF WORK : variable to a maximum of 36.25 hours per week (must be able to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required)

Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada
Kingston, Ontario
SALARY : $15.50 to $16.35 per hour
PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT : May 1 to September 4, 2023 (with opportunity for extension until October 31, 2023)
WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN THIS ROLE?
You will :
- Be a representative of one of Kingston’s premium and internationally recognized tourism sites.
- Provide first point of welcome to guests by greeting, responding to inquiries and providing Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada programming and site information in both English and French.
- Provide travel and tourist information to the public on Fort Henry National Historic Site and The St. Lawrence Parks Commission’s other attractions, Greater Kingston and Eastern Ontario.
- Contribute to the generation of revenues by collecting admission fees and upselling specialized products, programs and events offered at Fort Henry National Historic Site.
- Make each guest’s experience at Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada interesting and enjoyable by providing excellent customer service.
- Operate retail point of sales system, restock store product and maintain store cleanliness.
- Assist with wedding and special events set-up and teardown in the Great Hall as needed.
- Work safely at all times and report unsafe activities immediately to your supervisor.
- Embody the SLPC’s equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.
HOW DO I QUALIFY?
You have :
- Linguistic skills in English and French.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to provide effective product information and excellent customer service.
- The ability to sell and upsell admissions, programs and services.
- The ability to quickly assimilate and impart specialized program, admission, merchandise and regional tourist information.
- The ability to operate a cash register and credit card machine, and handle cash and invoice transactions with accuracy, integrity and efficiency.
- The ability to work effectively with large volumes of guests during peak periods.
- The ability to wear interpretive clothing, as required.
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment and the ability to assume responsibility and exercise initiative while working alone and / or in a team environment.
- The ability to learn all safety protocols and procedures to ensure personal, visitor and fellow staff safety is maintained at all times.
