Position Summary

As the Estimator (Utility) for the Ontario Line Project, you will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for utility-related aspects of the project.

You will ensure that all estimates are accurate, comprehensive, and aligned with project specifications and budgetary constraints.

Your role will involve analyzing project documents, coordinating with various stakeholders, and contributing to the financial planning and control of utility installations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for utility installations, including water, sewer, gas, and electrical services, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Analyze project documents, such as drawings, specifications, and contracts, to identify and quantify cost factors for utility works.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information for accurate estimations.
  • Review and evaluate historical data, vendor pricing, and market trends to ensure realistic and competitive cost estimates.
  • Develop and maintain detailed cost databases and documentation to support estimation processes and future project planning.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and other project-related activities to gather relevant information for estimation.
  • Prepare cost breakdowns, summaries, and reports to support project bids and financial planning.
  • Assist in value engineering efforts, identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising project quality or performance.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and company policies during the estimation process.
  • Provide technical support and advice during project planning and execution, addressing any cost-related issues or concerns.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on utility installations or similar infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in estimation software and tools, such as HCSS HeavyBid, WinEst, or similar applications.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in preparing cost estimates.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and best practices in utility installations and construction estimation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to identify and address potential cost-related issues.
  • Certification or training in construction estimation or related areas is desirable.
