This hybrid position will allow the candidate to play a vital role in the development and implementation of solutions, and to be involved in its socialization and adaptation by the business sponsors and technology stakeholders. The role will enable the candidate to develop business and technical expertise in the Wealth Management Technology domain, be exposed to industry and leading‑edge architectures, solution patterns and technologies, and develop meaningful cross‑functional relationships with other groups at BMO.
Group Culture
This candidate will be working in the Solution Delivery Architecture CoE across Canadian Wealth, Digital and Insurance Technology, liaising closely with business partners, and working alongside other solution architects, account managers, business analysts and senior developers. The team is incredibly close‑knit, collaborative, and high performing.
Role Responsibilities
- Creates and manages key architecture assets for the designated portfolio and business scope
- Leads technical solutions for enterprise programs and portfolio projects
- Builds effective solutions based on business requirements, working closely with the business and other technology partners
- Creates technical design recommendations aligned to standards for development and integration of new products, services, applications, and technology solutions.
- Produces conceptual and detailed solution architectures to meet strategic business, financial and technology objectives through documentation of use‑case diagrams, component interaction diagrams, data flow diagrams and sequence diagrams, using available solution architecture authoring tools
- Ensures adherence of the proposed solution architecture with all relevant internal standards and external regulations
- Manages trade‑offs between speed to market, quality and financial impact
- Stays abreast of industry technical and business trends through participation in professional associations, practice communities, and individual learning
- Clarifies / identifies / validates impacted application components and requirements to account manager and BA, which are further extended to the business for approval
- Works alongside the Enterprise Architecture team to gauge the feasibility of proposed solution and application enhancements / creation
- Provides input into the preparation of business case by providing key architectural insights on feasibility, risks and alignment with enterprise strategy
- Works independently and regularly handles non‑routine situations
- Has some experience in architecting and designing scalable, high‑availability application solutions that leverage the cloud platform and infrastructure
- Architects and develops applications to be cloud‑optimised
- Has experience in evaluating the architecture of cloud solutions to understand how technical decisions may impact business outcomes and recommends cloud solutions and technologies that align with the business requirements
Must‑Have Skills
5+ years of Solution Architect experience in a large, enterprise‑level environment5+ years of experience in enterprise, application and information architecture design7+ years of software development experienceMain tech stack (based on current insurance portfolio) – .Net Core, C#, Java, Microsoft SQL Server, AWS / Azure (primary : AWS, secondary : Azure) cloudKnowledge of Oracle, ESP job scheduler, SFTPNice to have – IBMi (AS400), COBOL, DB2Strong understanding of service‑oriented architecture, databases, information warehouses and data modelling techniquesStrong experience with real‑time and batch interface design and implementations, including sequence diagrams and documentationStrong experience with SOAP / XML and RESTful / JSON schema design and implementationStrong experience with database structures and relational database design and modellingStrong cloud solution architecture experienceLife insurance experience is requiredPrevious banking / finance experience is a strong plusNice‑to‑Have Skills
