5000 Counsellor / Behaviour Support teacher at Saanichton campus supporting students in self paced, individualized learning.
Successful applicant should have experience working with at risk youth in an alternate setting, working collaboratively on a team, and have experience and knowledge in working with community outside agencies.
Required Qualifications Bachelor of Education (Secondary) Master's Degree in Counselling or Psychology or a related discipline with a focus on counselling Two years of successful classroom experience at the secondary level Two years of successful school counselling experience at the secondary level that includes the provision of counselling, consultation, coordination and education services that promote the intellectual, human, social and career development of students Current practical experience dealing with adolescents exhibiting behavioural and / or emotional problems Demonstrated successful experience in the classroom and in a school-counselling position Demonstrated successful experience working with at-risk vulnerable adolescents Ability to adjust curriculum and assessment strategies to meet the needs of a wide range of students Experience with graduation level courses, including provincial exam preparation Secondary experience and extensive knowledge of curriculum and graduation criteria Ideally, the successful applicant will possess : Ability to support classroom teachers in understanding and planning for the social, emotional and behavioural needs of students in their classes Strong communication skills with students, parents and colleagues and ability in group process techniques Ability and willingness to act as a resource person for teaching staff Demonstrated interest and a strong commitment to the emotional and social development of adolescents Demonstrated aptitude for counselling and / or professional counselling experience Experience working in a proactive, comprehensive counselling model Experience working in a comprehensive model supporting the academic, social and emotional needs of International students Strong understanding of current Graduation Programs prescribed by the Ministry of Education Strong understanding of transitioning middle years learners to secondary and secondary learners to post-secondary Threat Assessment Level 2 training Knowledge and understanding of the role a counsellor plays on a Critical Response Team Familiarity with community resources and referral processes Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team Successful experience with adapting and modifying materials for a diversity of learners Please Note : Thank you in advance for applying.
