Job Summary
Purpose : This role reports to the Senior Director, Global EHS and is responsible for maintaining the global environmental programs while collaborating with health and safety functions as needed.
Scope : The Environmental Specialist ensures compliance with all environmental regulations, supports all sites with environmental initiatives, assists in program development, and helps build the overall environmental program, including employee engagement, training, incident investigations, and auditing.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides technical expertise in environmental regulation compliance and tactical coaching to managers and employees.
- Monitors, responds to, and resolves environmental issues; escalates when necessary.
- Stays aware of leading edge environmental practices through professional development activities and legislation monitoring.
- Provides technical input into the development and revision of EHS standards, training, and projects utilizing codes, standards, and relevant documents.
- Supports annual chemical and hazardous material inventory programs for all sites in accordance with global EHS standards and regulatory submissions.
- Supports global EHS compliance with regulated programs, including waste registration, stewardship programs, surveys, and air compliance.
- Supports waste audits in cooperation with site EHS leads and impacted groups and reviews findings to ensure corrective actions are executed.
- Supports the creation and upkeep of the global EHS Compliance Calendar and site EHS self‑assessment tools.
- Supports project teams to ensure compliance with company environmental requirements, codes, or standards.
- Participates in the internal auditing of the EHS program and provides support as required to initiate identified corrective measures.
- Performs research that supports key environmental initiatives.
- Participates in Incident / Accident investigations associated with environmental compliance, tracks recommendations, and follows up on corrective actions.
- Takes a lead role in responding to external groups such as regulatory bodies and customers.
- Supports site safety committees and other designated employee committees as a resource for environmental matters.
- Develops and executes employee engagement activities and communications focusing on Apotex’s environmental programs.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders in the development and revision of environmental training content and delivers or supports training specific to area of expertise.
- Works safely in a team environment to achieve all outcomes.

Job Requirements
Education
University / College degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies or related science with applicable experience.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough understanding of pertinent environmental acts, regulations, and associated codes and standards.Understanding of globally accepted environmental and sustainability programs, platforms and metrics.Familiarity with ISO 14001.Knowledgeable in occupational health and safety programs / management systems.Proven ability as a team player.Excellent organizational / project management skills.Strong communication skills (verbal & written).Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access software package.Experience
