Logistics - Summer Student
Overview
The Logistics Summer Student will support the regional Cement Logistics team in the various areas of the supply chain including rail and vessel distribution, inventory planning as well as in the implementation of logistics performance metrics.
The student will work within a fast paced and dynamic team of Logistics. This is a Hybrid Position.
This is a 12-16 week term contract assignment.
Responsibilities
- Develop a knowledge base of all three modes of transportation (barge, rail and road) used by the business unit.
- Communicate and maintain plant shipment plans. Drive plant adherence to these plans.
- Develop methods for rail tracking and tracing to ensure proper delivery of Lafarge cementitious products.
- Ensure plants and terminals are completing various modal tracking reports.
- Assist in data exchange with carriers, freight analysis and performance metrics.
- Assist in the review and implementation of new technology (Yard Management Systems and Tracking Tools) for integration of visibility and metric tracking for the logistics team and other stakeholders.
Integrate analysis of data to provide necessary business insights and make recommendations to improve the business and optimize our fleet.
- Provides insights on opportunities for both inbound and outbound movements.
- Calibrate the optimal fleet size using demand forecasting and improvements / efficiencies of fleet management.
- Prepare monthly key performance indicators such as; cycle time; service performance; repairs and maintenance; demurrage and accessorial charges;
lease expenses and repositioning fees.

- Well developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in utilizing computer and web-based systems.
- Proficiency in working in Google Suite and Excel.
- Strong willingness to learn.
- Able to work effectively with different people in different environments.
- Able to organize and manage multiple priorities and strict deadlines.
Qualification Profile
- Completion of 1st or 2nd year of applicable College or University education, formal training in specialized areas of Logistics considered an asset.
- Returning to Logistics studies in the fall.
Work Environment and Travel :
- No travel required.
