Job Description

This position, operating on a fixed-term basis, serves as the organization's payroll subject matter expert, responsible for overseeing the administration and accounting of our client's payroll, encompassing benefits, payroll taxes, remittances, and compliance with government regulations.

Reporting to the Controller Director of Finance Operations (Compensation) within the Finance Department, this role closely collaborates with Human Resources.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring payroll administration adheres to regulatory requirements and policies.
  • Precisely processing semi-monthly payroll using UKG Pro (formerly Ultipro).
  • Calculating payroll taxes and benefits as necessary.
  • Promptly preparing monthly remittances, including pension contributions for both employees and employers.
  • Reconciling year-end tax slips and government reports.
  • Crafting payroll and related accrual journal entries.
  • Conducting monthly and quarterly reconciliations of payroll and benefits GL accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness for the Income Statement and Balance Sheet, including accrued bonus, vacation, severance, and other payroll-related liabilities.
  • Assisting in the preparation of month-end compensation analysis.
  • Computing labor rates for internal allocation purposes.
  • Assisting external audits by providing control overviews and requested documentation.
  • Maintaining and updating documentation on payroll processes and controls.
  • Acting as a primary contact with Ultimate Kronos Group for processing support.
  • Serving as the primary contact for employee inquiries related to payroll and taxable benefits.
  • Performing other assigned tasks

Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll processing and related accounting entries.
  • A degree in business administration or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with the UKG Pro payroll.
  • PCP designation
  • Profound expertise in Canadian payroll regulations.
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and process improvement skills.
