Black & McDonald Limited is actively seeking a Job Cost Analyst to support the Western Utilities Region in British Columbia.
Primary areas of responsibilities will consist of ongoing performance and monitoring of job cost and billing functions , as well as planning / scheduling for multiple projects , in support of regional business activities.
Duties & Responsibilities :
Cost Control
- Work with project management to prepare invoicing, analyze project status and set goals
- Facilitates the tracking of project milestones and financial deadlines
- Facilitates bi-weekly WIP meetings with project teams
- Mentors Project Managers in preparation of Earned Value / Performance Reports / Cash Flow Analysis and Accrual
- Ideally brings or develops her / his own reporting and analysis tools to supplement current internal tools
- Liaises with Project Management on matters related to cost, scheduling and productivity reporting
- Participates in the creation of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and development of schedules (including resource loading) for those WBS elements.
- Participates in the project change management process as required; monitors procedures and practices, thinks creatively and strategically to create improvements
- Mentors and supports Project Managers / Coordinators on planning and scheduling tasks.
- Uses JD Edwards software to set up job, add cost codes, log, enter, and review change orders , record booked sales, and review / update job forecast
- Ensures the project set up / structure supports the billing requirements, billing line set up as required
- Generates accurate and timely draft billing for customer approval, sends invoices to client; post approved invoices, and collects overdue invoices
- Elevates payment issues related to performance
- Reconciles monthly billed / unbilled vs. revenue activity, and investigates / resolves unexplained reconciling items
- Monitors job for holdback release timelines and required documents for release
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and reports for management as requested
- May perform other related duties as required
Planning & Scheduling
- Responsible for the overall planning and scheduling activities on multiple projects, identifying critical paths including critical float path analysis and schedule variance analysis
- Capable of developing project plans and schedules based solely on project scope and with minimum direction and input
- Creates and maintains routine schedules on a regular basis
- Monitors deviation in schedules for assigned disciplines or specialties and advises the project management team for their consideration
- Schedules resource loading and project monitoring; Assesses progress measurement and develops / updates progress curves for progress reporting
- Performs schedule variance analysis and risk analysis, providing recommendations as required
- Conducts recovery plans, contingency planning, and schedule compression techniques
- Liaises with project management on matters relating to planning and scheduling
- Integrates schedules for schedule portfolio management internally or with the client(s); manages information integration from engineers, subcontractors, owners, and others to create an integrated master schedule
- Mentors and supports Project Managers / Coordinators on planning and scheduling tasks

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance, Project Management or Engineering
- Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be an asset
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- At least 5 years experience in Cost Control, Planning & Scheduling, in a construction setting
- Schedule risk analysis

- Advanced user of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), JD Edwards, Primavera (P6) and Microsoft Project
- Please note that this position is based in our Vancouver Office location .
The expected salary range for this role is between $90,000 and $110,000. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate’s qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience.
