Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our People & Culture team in Toronto. In this role, you will manage and process end-to-end payroll while ensuring compliance with Canadian payroll laws and internal company policies. You will also support benefits administration, reporting, and year-end tax documentation, playing a key role in employee experience and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Process bi-weekly, full-cycle payroll for salaried and hourly employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Manage payroll transactions, including new hires, terminations, bonuses, and other adjustments
  • Collaborate with People & Culture and Finance teams to ensure accurate GL coding, payroll reconciliations, and reporting
  • Handle government remittances, Records of Employment (ROEs), and statutory filings such as T4s, RL1s, EHT, and Workers’ Compensation
  • Act as a point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees and management
  • Maintain payroll records in compliance with CRA and provincial regulations
  • Administer benefit deductions, pension contributions, and ensure proper setup of taxable benefits
  • Partner with Finance and HR to produce payroll-related reports for audit, budgeting, and management purposes
  • Support year-end processing and lead reconciliation of payroll data and statutory returns
  • Stay updated on changes in payroll legislation and best practices to ensure ongoing compliance

Qualifications

  • 3–4 years of hands-on experience in Canadian payroll processing
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) certification (or in progress)
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation and employment standards in multiple provinces (Ontario, Quebec, a plus)
  • Experience using payroll and HRIS systems (e.g., Workday, ADP, Ceridian, or similar)
  • Strong Excel skills and familiarity with payroll reporting and reconciliations
  • Excellent attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with internal stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience processing US payroll is an asset
  • Prior work in mid- to large-sized organizations or shared services environments
  • Exposure to benefit administration and pension plan support
  • Bilingual in English and French (an asset)
