The Role

If so, we are looking for you.

Bethesda's Children's Services is looking for Respite Workers to help promote Bethesda's vision and mission statement, as well as provide quality client care.

Respite will provide home and community-based support for the children and youth we serve and their families.

Key Responsibilities :

The key responsibilities of a Respite Worker include, but are not limited to :

  • Work collaboratively with children / youth, their families and other community agencies to provide respite, behaviour management and skill development for children / youth with special needs.
  • Implement Behaviour Support Plans and Applied Behaviour Analytic (ABA) programming to reduce risk-behaviour and support skill development for children with complex needs.
  • Work in center-based clinic setting, family homes and community settings.
  • Engage children / youth by sourcing out fun and exciting programming, activities and skill building opportunities in the community.

Support children / youth to participate in these activities and events.

  • Collect data and use Microsoft Excel to graph data.
  • Support children / youth engaging in risk behaviour while remaining calm, neutral, and effectively using non-violent crisis intervention strategies.
  • Participate in supervision meetings by providing suggestions, creative ideas and recommendations for supporting the children / youth on your caseload.
  • Administrative tasks as required including documentation and resource development.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Respite Worker are :

  • College Diploma in Psychology, Autism and Behavioural Science, Developmental Services or a related field. A University degree is an asset.
  • Experience working with children / youth with developmental disabilities, autism or complex behavioural and / or mental health needs is an asset.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Bilingual in French is an asset.
  • Strong attendance record.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (will train).
  • First Aid (will train).
