PROJECT DESCRIPTION :
Located in the DeGroote School of Business, at the Ron Joyce Center in Burlington, the McMaster Digital Transformation Research Centre (MDTRC) is designed as a knowledge hub to engage in three primary mandates focused on digital transformation : collaborative multidisciplinary research, outreach to academic and non-academic partners as well as training and development.
MDTRC leverages neuroscience tools and techniques to provide a deep understanding of the user experience and how the use of technology impacts people, organizations and society.
Reporting to the Director, MTDRC, this Research Associate will coordinate and manage a 4-year major program of research focused on bridging digital divides for older adults, involving multiple researchers across several McMaster Faculties.
This Research Associate will lead co-design activities among researchers, older adults and other important stakeholders.
Additionally, this role will help support other strategic objectives of the MDTRC.
JOB SUMMARY :
Applies specialized knowledge to assess, plan, execute, and evaluate a program of research. Develops collaborations and partnerships with international colleagues and project stakeholders.
PURPOSE AND KEY FUNCTIONS :
- In consultation with senior leadership, develop and execute an annual strategy for a relevant research stream.
- Develop and implement project charters, workplans and strategies to ensure the achievement of project timelines and deliverables, and the efficient use of human and practical resources.
- Develop estimates of time and resources required for projects.
- Troubleshoot problems at all stages of the research project and make recommendations to address challenges.
- Ensure that the relevant research methodology is applied, and all research material is handled in accordance with established protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Monitor and evaluate research activities and prepare progress reports on outcomes and status.
- Conduct in-depth research and analyses, including literature searches and landscape reviews.
- Apply specialized knowledge and scientific principles to review, critically appraise, interpret and analyze published literature.
- Write reports, briefing notes, white papers, landscape reviews, publications and presentations as the first author.
- Write sections of scientific papers, funding proposals and abstracts.
- Write operations documentation for projects.
- Gain cooperation of research partners and team members by acting as the first point of contact on research projects and liaising with project collaborators, stakeholders and staff.
- Keep project stakeholders informed of project progress through regular correspondence and reports.
- Exchange technical and administrative information with colleagues and project stakeholders.
- Develop presentations and present at national and international meetings, seminars, and conferences.
- Manage knowledge translation activities, including the development of materials and content for engagement with the public : presentations / lectures, case studies, multi-media materials, etc.
- Direct the work of other staff, graduate students, and post-docs in the execution of project goals.
- Contributes to curriculum and resource development.
- Lead educational, learning, development and training courses and seminars.
- Implement and maintain research project budgets. Create financial projects and make adjustments to research project budgets throughout the fiscal year.
- Exercise appropriate budget controls, monitor, and reconcile accounts.
- Develop relationships, partnerships and networks between research collaborators at an international level.
- Represent the Institute at conferences, scientific meetings, committees, and other stakeholder functions.
- Travel internationally to meet with partners, sponsors, and other stakeholders in support of program activities and projects.
SUPERVISION :
- Provide lead hand supervision and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work of others.
- Provide orientation and show procedures to others.
