Position Overview
As a member of the Processing Team, the Superintendent, Process Operations will report to the Senior Manager, Fixed Asset and Planning and work a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off schedule at the Ekati Diamond Mine.
The Superintendent, Process Operations will be responsible for leading the safety culture at the Ekati Diamond Mine and is expected to interact frequently in the field and with all departments and levels of the organization.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Participate and advocate all Health, Safety, Environment, and Security programs and ensure that Safety is embedded as the number one value in all aspects of operations and programs at the Ekati Diamond mine;
- Ensure all legal and contractual requirements, including those under the NWT Mines Health & Safety Act are continuously met;
- Actively participate in goal setting and the strategic planning process for all processing operations;
- Promote and drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the business;
- Meet monthly, quarterly and annual targets and objectives through rigorous monitoring and control of activities;
- Assist in developing and managing departmental budgets, including the evaluation and review of processing methods and equipment, and preparing capital expenditure proposals where required;
- Manage all technical activities, ensuring that a safe operating process is defined and applied; and that continuous improvement processes are in place to capture improvement opportunities;
- Provide leadership and guidance to the process plant team by use of best practice; and
- Accountability for achieving targets and ensuring effective cost management.
- Foster a positive team environment by using excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.
Education / Experience
- Degree in Metallurgical, Process Engineering, or related discipline.
- At least seven (7) years of progressive experience in processing roles, preferably in diamond processing.
- At least five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory role.
- Proven communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to gain buy-in both from within team and from other departments is essential to the success of this role.
- Experience working in the mining industry, northern Canada, and an understanding of the northern regulatory environment is preferred

Additional Information
The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary, Yellowknife, and other northern fly points.
