GENERAL PURPOSE
Ensures the effective application of EHS programs that relate to the various government agencies, insurance programs and EHS operational excellence objectives. Provide leadership for environmental, health, and safety programs and MillerKnoll EHS department employees with a regional responsibility including multiple sites.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop and lead EHS leads, site team(s) through leadership, continuous training, and development of a succession plan for key positions.
- Direct efforts to minimize risk and / or eliminate employee exposure to material, process and building safety hazards.
- Participate with new project evaluations for environmental, health and safety risks and applicable controls necessary.
- Coach and develop teams to identify and control environmental compliance risks, and maintain environmental compliance calendars.
- Promote an Ergonomics program that creates a safe work station for all employees that can be benchmarked by MK customers.
- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with local, state and federal governmental agencies.
- Promote the communications from corporate that improve all employees EHS literacy through EHS conferences, newsletters and other forms of communication.
- Facilitate achievement of corporate and site specific environmental and safety goals though specific site based assignments or corporate scope projects.
- Provide input to management system teams, the adjustments needed to continuously improve EHS performance.
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested.
- Meet with Operations, Legal, Human Resource, Finance, Facilities, and other leaders often to motivate and empower EHS risk reduction and control.
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Experience
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene or related degree.Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM).Minimum of 8 years Occupational Safety and Health experience.Demonstrated success in the field of EHS management.Demonstrated understanding of loss control / insurance industry practices and requirements.Demonstrated experience with Local, State and Federal compliance agencies.Knowledge of NFPA, NEC, and related building / compliance codes and standards.Skills and Abilities
Exhibits a high degree of initiative and self-direction, a work style that is action oriented and proven decision making ability.Highly effective communication skills and ability to interact with people of various social / economic backgrounds, work experience and education levels.Ability to effectively use office automation / communication, software and tools used in the MK office environment.Demonstrated ability to achieve results through others using and applying good interpersonal and managerial skills.An understanding of budgetary expenditures and capital planning.Being thoughtful and intentional about acknowledging and countering unconscious bias; using gender-neutral and inclusive language; and emphasizing the company's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.Must be able to perform all essential functions with or without accomodations.Travel 20% domestic and internationalPHYSICAL DEMANDS
