User Compliance Standards Strategist

About the team

As Stripe continues to develop innovative products that serve businesses of all sizes around the world, risk will increase in complexity and scale. The Onboarding and ComplianceStrategy organization protects and advances Stripe’s business, brand, and mission by building and deploying industry-leading policies and programs that instill user, regulator, and partner trust in Stripe while enabling business growth.

What you’ll do

As a member of this team, you will have a deep understanding of Stripe’s onboarding and compliance policies, systems, and controls, which include areas such as Know Your Customer (KYC), Know Your Business (KYB), and Financial Crimes / Anti-Money Laundering (AML). You will design strategies, develop standards, and drive risk appetite decisions that balance risk exposure with user experience to achieve Stripe’s goals. You will provide expert guidance to Policy, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams in navigating complex areas to ensure compliance with regulatory and partner requirements while minimizing user friction.

Responsibilities

• Drive onboarding and compliance standards and controls strategy for company-level strategic initiatives that balance risk mitigation with user experience
• Partner with cross functional stakeholders - including Financial Crimes Policy, Product, Engineering and Operations - to identify and build effective programs and controls
• Assess Stripe’s current risk performance and develop and prioritize long-term strategic plans for future growth.
• Represent Stripe in external engagements with our most critical partners and customers
• Enable user onboarding to safely grow at scale, continuously optimizing for efficiency and effectiveness, and staying hyper focused on a positive user experience
• Challenge the status quo and provide multiple alternative solutions and key execution criteria
• Continue learning about the payments space through industry engagement and independent research, and scale your knowledge to others
• Execute special projects / ad hoc analyses, as initiatives, products, risks, and opportunities are constantly evolving

Preferred qualifications

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team / business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live.

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is CA$139,300 - CA$208,900. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions / sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
