Zurich Canada is looking for an AVP, Programs Underwriting & Service Manager. The role is part of a fast‑growing Programs portfolio where you will manage key program partnerships to support profitable growth nationally.
Reporting to the Head of Programs, you will partner with cross‑functional leaders, operational managers and underwriters to implement and monitor strategic and tactical initiatives that drive portfolio growth. You will implement and communicate underwriting strategy, including guidelines, appetite, product, pricing and process, employing best practices across all regions.
Zurich Canada uses artificial intelligence–enabled tools to support recruitment, but all hiring decisions are reviewed by qualified hiring professionals. The company requires three days of in‑person presence per week, which may include time in the office or market‑facing engagements.
What you will do
- Manage relationships with key Program partners.
- Support the development and execution of the business pipeline.
- Guide and mentor team members and underwriters.
- Grow existing profitable Programs and target new opportunities aligned with strategy.
- Collaborate with stakeholders in Operations, Underwriting, Finance, IT, etc. to address and resolve bordereau processing and servicing matters.
- Ensure service excellence by applying due diligence and Standard Operating Procedures for renewals and new business.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations to Executive Leadership for portfolio onboarding and quarterly business reviews.
- Drive the implementation of underwriting strategy and guidelines, ensuring alignment with technical standards, program business strategy, and best practices.
- Monitor underwriting performance metrics and data to identify trends, support improvements, and develop action plans.
- Leverage market and industry data to identify trends, analyze key themes, and make recommendations for process, policy, or product development.
- Assist in drafting Delegation of Authority Guidelines, ensuring compliance with BU and Zurich‑wide standards.
- Operate within Zurich’s Risk Policy, Global Underwriting Policy, and governance frameworks, translating them into actionable guidelines and best practices.
- Support governance & compliance activities, including regulatory reviews and related queries.
Job Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's Degree and 10 or more years of experience in P&C underwriting.
- Strong analytical and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to organize and lead multiple projects and initiatives.
- Time management and task prioritization.
- People leadership experience, with a track record of developing and fostering talent.
- Experience with compliance and regulatory requirements.
- FCIP or equivalent designation.
At Zurich Canada, we are committed to pay equity. Compensation for this position ranges from 110,000 to 160,000 CAD, with potential variability based on office location, responsibilities, and qualifications.
